Where I live they test your urine after you deliver and if you test positive then they test the baby, if you test negative they don't bother testing the baby. The woman I shared a room with tested positive and so did the baby, the hospital kept the baby for three extra days to make sure the baby would be okay if it did have withdrawals,  and then the mother got to take her home. CPS was called but I have no idea what happened after that because I don't know the girl. I tested negative and they didn't test my baby. I know a girl from school who was doing drugs worse then Marijuana and her first child was taken from her, she cleaned up but never got her child back. She then went on to have two more kids and CPS was automatically involved with drug testing because of her past.  But because she stayed clean they never took her other children.  It's better to tell your doctor so that you can make sure you and your baby get the care that you both need. Depending on how much/often you smoked your baby CAN go through withdrawals, I watched that little girl suffer for a day and a half of it. They will go through withdrawals from cigarette smoke too. If you stop smoking now you and your baby should be alright.

I'm not sure what would happen if the baby tested positive, but i just had a friend who adopted from a mother that did cociane, and the drug test on the meconium goes back to when the meconium first formed. They could tell from this test that the mother used in the beginning of her pregnancy but stopped early enough that the baby didn't have withdrawals.

To all the women saying marijuana is "good for you" please read this study published by the lung association in Colorado.

Don't believe the people saying weed is good for you. Especially those trying to convince you that you're not harming your baby. It's just as bad, if not worse, than Tobacco. Please read actual research and not the here say regurgitated by potheads

I smoked weed up until i was 21 weeks. I live in California and my doctor knew about it and my baby is perfectly fine. We have the same compounds in are body that Marijuana has. I stopped taking prescription drugs that are made by people and went ahead and smoked some natural herb. It's an illegal drug because the government wants you to believe that it's so horrible because marijuana will replace their prescription drugs which means they wont make any money. So momma don't worry if you have a safe home and there is no neglect and you don't have weed laying around you'll be okay. (: Wish You Luck

By the way I didn't smoke for three weeks and passed clear so You definitely have enough time to clear your system.

They will ONLY TEST IF U TELL YOUR DOCTOR

I hope you didn't tell your doctor that would be Silly. U can clean up just don't smoke anymore and if they do test.which they won't.. Just admit yes I did smoke a couple times just for the morning sickness.
Tell them you don't know dates so it looks like its not a big deal.

Honestly its not. So many woman do. Its fine
But quitting is safer.
I sampled with my first but I'm not this time , Souly because of loud mouths like these woman and cps.  Majijuana has fantastic health benefits I cannot wait till its legal.

God bless x Take care.

There should be an option to report women on this site to the proper authorities. I understand this is supposed to be a judgement free zone but needlessly putting your children in harm with illegal drugs is another thing.

Instead of asking will it come up  positive at delivery, I'd ask will my baby be alright? Selfish mother.

Anyways before anyone starts getting bitchy like always im just saying is your child if you choose to smoke while pregnacy is your choice but is laughable that you start worrying about what could happen at 28 Weeks the damage is already
done and it doesnt usually show at birth dont be surprised if the baby developes asthma or has learning problems or other bad things later on.. And who is to blame the great responsible loving and caring mommy who couldnt leave her bad habits knowing is bad for the baby and i know most smokers will say its ok i smoked my baby came out healthy but later on life they develope problems.. Marihuana is not bad it helps people who have health problems i agree but guess what is not bad when the doctor actually tells you you need it and have it prescribed not because you choose to do it because youre addicted to it.

Wow the ignorance of people EXACTLY!!!!! Do you ladies know that marijuana has saved many people and children's lives???? Like holy crap!!!! I'm sorry but yes I did smoke weed ALL of my pregnancies and it was a whole lot better then starving and loosing weight and putting my baby at risk! I stopped my last month with both and GUESS WHAT?!?!? THEY DIDNT TAKE MY BABIES! MY BABIES DIDNT COME OUT WITH ANY HEALTH PROBLEMS, WAS CARRIED FULL TERM AND GREAT WEIGHT :-) 7LBS AND 7.5 LBS NO ONE HAS PROVED IT DOES ANYTHING TI AN UNBORN CHILD SO IF YOU ARE THAT INGNORANT ON THE WHOLE SUBJECT I SUGGEST YOU LEAVE NO COMMENT :-)

Just stop smoking alot of u r ignorant any type of drugs could cause harm in one way or another to an unborn child. And if u cared about ur bababy just make sure u get check the doctors are there to help u. They r not there to judge u or anything like that. I understand u said u didn't know u were pregnant at first so that's all u have to tell ur doctor that u didn't know and now ur afraid that anything u have done before finding out might cause some type of problems for ur baby in the future.  The reason I say any type of drugs could cause harm to ur baby is because I have seen it in person how my sister in law have seroius problems by just smoking pot.  While pregnant. Not everyone is the same but it does happen.

Are you more worried about being caught or are you more worried about how it may effect your baby? Honestly since you know that what your doing is wrong and you know there is potential for harm and that you could loose your baby if it comes down to it! Why continue? Regurdless of the out come you still believe somewhere deep down that what you did was wrong!

I can't see a single situation where doing drugs and harming an unborn baby (if you have doubts on the effects smoking does to babies by all means get medical advice cause I assure you it can cause problems). When your a mum you are second to every need of that child. End of

Reading this post and some of the comments and I am truly shocked and discusted. My son was stillborn last year, I did everything you are supposed to (Didn't even drink coffee cause of caffine) and I still lost him. I don't understand how you can be so careless with something so precious! I'm just speechless at the selfishness of your actions to continue to do drugs while pregnant! Your already responsible for the care of that lil one, it's time to put them first!

OMG!!!! Like a previous person posted. She is here for A-D-V-I-C-E not to be judged. Some people just don't get it. I smoked until I was 7 months pregnant with my first. I have been clean since she was shut four months old. She's a little over two now. Birthday in August. Nothing was ever said to me.I'm not sure if they drug tested me honestly. BUT I would tell your doctor. Every state is different on how they handle these type of things.

I'm 21 weeks and I've talked to my doctor about me smoking marijuana...I plan on quoting and she said either way it will be in the baby's first poop but if they test the baby's urine and it comes out with it in the system your in trouble because that would mean you've continued to smoke up until 30 days you were due! I quit with my last 2 at the same time and I never had CPS involved because it wasn't in there urine from quitting. Are you in a legal state?
