Paternity leave is normally 2 wks unless he can take paid time off in addition, he'll want to check with his company if it's paid or not.
He can take leave through FMLA the family medical leave act. His job will be protected and he should be able to take time off based off the new birth of his child.
My husband is taking vacation time, 2wks thankfully it's paid time.
My Husband gets paid 10 days of leave for having the baby and he has 30 days of leave he can take from saving his vacation days. So altogether 40 days of paid leave but he's using 2 weeks after the baby is born and then when he comes back from deployment he's using the rest.
My husband got leave from EDD his job had him file threw EDD and they called it bonding time
He can under family medical leave, though most companies will probably work with you without going that far
My husband is going to take 2 wks off of his job at UPS. Unfortunately it's not paid tho unless he uses vacation time but that was already used this yr :(
My husband is in the military and gets 10 days paternity leave. Idk about civilian jobs though
Hello jekanikki23. What state are you in?
The United states is unfortunately VERY behind in comparison to other countries in this regard. Paternity leave is much more common around the world than it is here. But the good news is that ive recently heard that there are some companies now that are starting to give dad's time off here in the U.S. too. Tell your baby daddy to look into it and find out sooner rather than later. Generally, though, it's only a couple of days to a week, from what I understand. I don't think that it's a paid leave either. I hope that in your case it's different!
