I feel like that too, i worry that everyone will just buy clothes and not really pay attention to the bigger items, but until this day i dont know how to solve that problem sorry..
I asked for gift cards and it helped buy the stuff I need.. two of my friends went in on a crib which helped.. if two of your family members went in on the high chair it would help you and them.. I do not think you are greedy.. I still got a lot of blankets and toys and diapers.. but atleast the most expensive thing was bought..
Honestly it does help if people grouped together and bought the high price items so all you had to do was buy the small things
Yeah, grouping together is good. My aunt who is also my godmother went together with my grandmother to buy my car seat and stroller set. It's good that you have differently priced items so people can choose what fits their price range. There will always be things left over but hopefully you get most of the necessities. Also, at babies r us, if you have things left on your registry afterward, I believe they let you buy it 10% off.
I was worried about that too but was surprised at my babyshower. I didn't even have to buy diapers til he wad 9months old! but maybe on the invitation put a "diaper drawing" anyone who brings a pack gets out into a drawing. Trust me it hero's alot! That way you can save for the big stuff
Be thankful for anything you get
Be thankful for anything you get
A wipe warmer and a high chair aren't necessities for a newborn, if you are looking to get what you need so you are prepared when he/she is born... Focus on what you will need asap and then hopefully you'd get more items that are useful now (at birth).
I was just going to say that. The business market of things sold for babies is full of unnecessary things. I had a wipes warmer, for example, and never used it. ditto for diaper genies and high chairs you use down the road when they are older, sitting up and eating. You wont need that for a while. And you can find really nice second hand ones to save money when it is time.
People may go in together to get the much needed items so hopefully that will happen. Like the car seat and stroller.
And then you can shop at places like "Once Upon a Child" for some things which is a used store but everything is cleaned up and nicely priced. Baby stuff is often just used for a short amount of time so is nice when people are done with it.
I also asked family and friends for any hand me downs or loans to keep prices down.
things like a bassinet is really nice to have but you only use for 3 months if that and so you wouldn't want to make that a priority. And play pens are nice but in truth, they are terrible to use as a crib because you have to reach so far in. We used ours when traveling or at someone's house so it didn't get that much use. Better to just go for a crib and a bouncy chair in my opinion. ;>) You don't even really need a changing table . . . I had one but changed my babies just as often on the changing pad in the tv room. :>)
It's all nice to have but when money is tight, just make wise choices.
good luck
One of the things I did with my first was told my sister who threw the shower what we really needed or wanted since we had tons of hand me down clothes already. And we registered at target and babies r us too. She kind of coordinated with people who wanted to go in on gifts together, or who asked about what we wanted. A lot of people did ask. Also, if you get a lot that you dont need, you can always take it and exchange at the store. It really is the thought that counts and don't feel bad about getting what your baby needs. But honestly other than crib, diapers, and car seat there aren't a lot of things you absolutely need for the newborn. There are also a lot of resources to get free car seats, formula, etc. So if you don't get what you need and have trouble with funds talk to your doctor or look online for your area to get help with those things.
I was very lucky with my shower. We got just about everything we needed. The only big item I bought was our crib. I got gift cards plus tins of clothes and so many diapers that I didn't have to buy any for almost a year. I used the gift cards for things for me after baby was born like breast pads, a nursing night gown and stocked up in menstrual pads.
My suggestion would be to buy the big items on your own. It's always better to get your baby what is needed before the baby shower or arleast have the money to the side because you can't really know or dictate what people will buy.
I got 2 things off of my registry at my shower lol everything else was great though all stuff I needed and wanted just not what I had actually put on my registry. gift cards helped allot
I've been worried about that too. Seems like the things I need I probably won't get.
When I registered at target it asked if I wanted gift cards to be a option I said yes. That way if someone doesnt want to buy something on my list (which is mostly diapers as we got tons of clothes and a bouncer and other things needed) then at least with a gift card I could use it towards diapers.
Im in the same situation right noe having my baby shower january 10th and idk what to do i feel like if i register for any store im asking for to much or idk i guess i dont want to pressure people so im keeping it at just whatever they take. I know for sure my husbands family is getting me the crib the stroller and car sit so maybe ill be good
Wouldn't it make much more sense to buy the big objects yourself? Spacing the purchases out to save money? My husband doesn't even want gifts to be given at our baby shower and has pretty much already bought everything so the shower is just an exciting event before the baby comes.
Wouldn't it make sense to be honest and tell the event planner your intentions instead of being upset for people being unable to read your mind/being cheap?
To be honest, I didn't get one single item that was on either of my registries. We did get a lot of gift cards and a lot of clothes which helped. I truly appreciated everything I got. Every outfit or blanket was one less I had to buy so that Just added to the money I used to buy the bigger things we needed. Just buy little by little. My husband and I bought one thing each paycheck, even if it was just a box of wipes or diapers. Also, target offers you 10% off anything not purchased by baby shower guests after the shower. You will get a big envelope with coupons in the mail after the shower. Have fun!
