I think u are very brave for telling this. I believe u are judged already and we all know what smoking and other harmfull things can do to your baby. I don't smoke while preggers. I love my kids to much fot it. Thumbs up for breaking this taboe. We're all grown. Instead of fingerpointing, lets talk about it!

I heard that if you don't stop smoking before you get pregnant but try to quit while your pregnant the withdrawal can cause a miscarriage.Either way I talk to your doctor.

I was an AVID smoker, was at about a pack a day, crazy expensive for that too. Had been a smoker for at least 12 years or more, but as soon as i got pregnant i quit. my little angle deserves more than that, and on top of that i didn't want her to have to go through side effects from MY stupid choice, such as deformity, addiction, or even miscarriage. To me it wasn't worth it, I am 26 weeks 2 days, and thats the same time i haven't smoked!! I gotta say i have never felt better and i thank my daughter for my will to quit, as it was simply not happening before the pregnancy

My mom has never been a smoker, but my dad smoked. When I was born I almost a few days after being born becuase I was having breathing issues, due to my mother being exposed to second hand smoke. I have had to deal with asthma all of my life. To imagine that your baby is being exposed first hand is really scary. Its not worth it at all. Please try to quit honey, I know it can be a hard habit to break! Talk to your doctor to see what can be done

Not only is smoking bad for you think of what it's doing to your child.my mom smoked with me and  my brother. I came out late and still had to be put in the nicu for heart and breathing problems. Then there's when your child comes out with more then health problems he Has a deformed hand and you don't know what to blame that on.was it smoking?also your own health can fail you while your giving birth which puts you and your baby at high risk. just think before you pick up another one.

I'm also a smoker and I'm 34 weeks. I'm not going to tell you that all these ladies that are yelling at you are full of it because, honestly, it really isn't good for the baby or you. Smoking doesn't garuntee that your baby is going to have issues by any means, but it does raise the chances. I think it's great that you've cut down so much though! I was smoking a little over a pack a day when I found out I was pregnant and I'm only down to half a pack a day. If you can keep cutting back then by all means go for it! If you can't though, just know that there are a lot of cases where the baby is fine and no it does not make you a horrible person, no matter what any one else wants to say. Smoking at all isn't ideal but only smoking 5 a day in comparison to 20 is still an amazing improvement!

If you smoke 5 a day now, next week try only smoking 4 a day. Then 3 the next. Until you aren't smoking any. When i found out i was pregnant i was smoking a pack to pack and a half a day. It took me 2 weeks to completely quit. I know women who smoked their whole pregnancy and their baby was fine. But i also know women who smoked and their baby had alot of issues. Including behavioural problems now that they are toddlers. And being overweight as an infant. It is simply not worth the risk to your child. I know its hard to quit, but imagine how hard it would be to have to live with knowing your little miracle has problems because of a choice you made during pregnancy. As a mother, you are going to have to make way bigger sacrifices than just quitting smoking.

Sorry to say but I think that's sad that u can't put Ur own needs aside for a healthy baby. It's nine months of Ur life to just put aside **** it's VERY selfish of u to put Ur needs before Ur child's. I use to smoke drink use n I stopped everything the minute I found out I was having a baby cold turkey it's called will power

The affect smoking has on a developing fetus and the health affects after the baby is born are studied,  well-known, and documented.  Please don't risk your child's health before he or she is even born.

When I was pregnant with my first child, I found pregnancy to be very empowering. I struggled with an eating disorder for 20 years on and off. I could never completely stop on my own. Pregnancy have me the strength and resolve to stop completely. Because it wasn't just my own life/and health at stake anymore. Then when I held my baby in my arms, I knew I had to live as long as possible for her and there was no going back to my total disregard for my own health. I knew I needed to be healthy to be a good mom and I needed to set a good example for my child.

Look within yourself and to your unborn child for the strength to quit.  Take pregnancy as the opportunity to make the changes in your life you've been wanting to make but just didn't have the motivation or discipline to. PLEASE don't kid yourself into thinking that smoking isn't that bad. It's is that bad... For you and your baby. My grandfather died if lung cancer and emphysema after a lifetime of chain smoking.  And I have seen the effects first hand and spent time in the hospital.

If you don't think you can do it on your own, seek help.  You're doctor can help you.

Wishing you all the best!  Hope you have a smooth pregnancy and deliver a healthy child! Be strong! You can do it! Hugs!

Your brave to admit you smoke on a public forum.. I have a lot of bad things to say but I'm sure you've heard them already. My fiance came early because his mom selfishly decided to smoke. But just like every other smoker out there your already trapped, all you have to decide is if your child's HEALTHY life is worth climbing out of the stupid person party hole. Eh... I'm mean but it's serious stuff. Best to you and the lil one :)

Personally, I stopped using nicotine products when I discovered I was pregnant. Each to their own I guess but the risks are known. You're still taking harmful chemicals into yours and your unborn baby's body. Would you blow smoke into your baby's face? I would assume not, so why put those harmful chemicals into your baby now?
Well done for cutting back but if I were you, I'd kick the habit. Try the vaping e cigs, that's what I was using before I quit altogether. Indeed there is nicotine still, but no tar or stinking smoke. It makes me angry when I see pregnant women chuffing away on cigarettes. You know the risks to your unborn child! Granted that many people will say they smoked all the way through pregnancy and their child had no issues. It's all very much an attitude of "it'll never happen to me".
Sorry if this sounds like I'm having a go but if you really need advice on a pregnancy forum about whether smoking during pregnancy is bad then you I'd be really questioning the competency of your midwife is she hasn't already told you that smoking is extremely bad for your unborn child!!!
