Gender reveal party or 3D ultrasound

So I originally wanted a gender reveal party really bad and I talked to my mom and she said we would do it. Well my Mother in law suggested we did a 3D ultrasound if we liked that idea instead. She offered to pay for the ultrasound, any extras we wanted to get with it like the teddy bear that has the baby's heartbeat inside the bear. It's a lot closer than going all the way to my house which is 4 hours away. The ultrasound place is an hour and a half away. The room hold up to 20 people which would be perfect for mine and my husbands family. I really really would like to do the 3D ultrasound but I don't want to make my mom feel like I am taking sides with my moth in law. I don't know what to do!! Please, advise anyone??

If I had the option for a 3D ultrasound I would have done that. I had my brother, his girlfriend, and his two sons come over since I live at home still my mom and sister were already here. We had cupcakes with blue frosting inside. Everybody ate the cupcakes without realizing they needed to look inside. :( Even after telling them haha.

Thanks everyone and I will be doing the 3D ultrasound and we will go to dinner after with a cake as you would have at a gender reveal party I am so excited and I want an elephant with the heart beat instead of a bear!! I love elephants!!!!

I did both ... I went to the 3d ultrasound with like 7 people and that's night we came home and had a gender reveal party with everyone else.

We actually made the decision to have the 3D ultrasound done with my family instead of a gender reveal and I dont regret it because we got a elephant with our little ones heartbeat in it that will last forever :) it was so cool seeing our little girl move around! Hope you have fun in whatever decision you make!

Personally I would have the 3D ultra sound but I would have everyone get together before the appt and maybe play a few guessing games to see who guesses if its a boy or girl :) I think both moms would be happy that way.

Ps. Id totally go for the bear with baby's heart beat :)

I don't think your mother will be offended if you have the ultrasound instead.  Just be sure to have her front and center when you have the ultrasound done so she feels involved. Truthfully, I think the US would be more fun cause that will be 30+ mins of actually playing with the baby.  And if your mother wants,  u all can go out for lunch\dessert afterwards.
