How long do you usually stay in the hospital after birth?

I was hospitalized 8 days total. Had a preemie, water rupturing, and getting the infection of the waters. After having him I was hospitalized for 3 days and on pitocin all those three days and on 3 different antibiotics. Pitocin after having a baby makes the healing take longer!

In U.S., natural delivery, had to stay 24 hours and have a BM. My neighbor's insurance requires that she stays in for 48 hours. She's pregnant with her first child and if she signs herself out insurance will not cover it. This was news to me, so maybe check with insurance to be safe.

I had a midwife and no it wasn't a sketchy hospital. I wasn't advising her to check herself out I was telling her that people can if they want to. This is my third I kind of know what go expect with a newborn and I work in health care so me staying at a hospital really no point

Mw89,
Sketchy hospital ):
Definitely would not leave until you're cleared to go. Also would not advise s first time mom to try and check herself out.
They have you stay for very good medical reasons.

You can honestly leave by signing yourself out you are not a prisoner.

I had c sections stayed 2 nights and was discharged the third day. I had to poo before they let me leave but I am pretty sure I lied. Lol I HATE hospitals and end up super exhausted because I have trouble sleeping there.

In the UK if it is a vaginal birth with no complications and no epidural you can be released after 6 hours. 24 with epidural! Any longer would be for complications here.

I had to stay later with both previous children because they had jaundice and needed to be under the lights. I was in the hospital 3 days with my first and 2 days with my second

For an uncomplicated vaginal birth it's usually 24 hours after the birth, fir a csection it's about 2-3 days depending on your condition.
