this is so sad!!! wat would u do??

So my mother in law does ultra sounds. And a lady and her husband came in for a gender revealed. And my mom notice something wrong with the baby. In two place she notice fluids where their shouldn't be. She said she couldn't come to tell them that the baby had birth defects. Because the mother was so happy to find out it was a girl. So she didn't tell them cause she was upset an didn't wanna ruin their happiness at the time. Would you want to know? I can see why she didn't but then again I would want to. I felt so bad when she told me

Personally, I feel like I would like to know. I mean I understand why she didn't want to ruin their happiness, but that is some serious stuff that I would like to know if the ultrasound tech found it, no matter what.

Awwwwwww, I can definitely understand her wanting to keep the couple happy but that's something very imperative that they NEEDED to know. If she can contact that patient's OB then I would hope she does that just so they can be notified. Awww , hopefully it's something that can be fixed.

That's such a hard situation to be in. I honestly don't know if i would want to know as long as i would be able to carry full term and deliver my baby, that's why i really didn't want to do the genetic testing. However, it may be helpful for them to know so they can plan accordingly maybe take classes or just get prepared

She really should have told them. Holding in information like that is illegal even though she didn't want to ruin the happiness (I understand that)  but if something was wrong with My daughter I would want to know asap to get on top of the issue and try to prevent anything occurring even more and prepare how to take care of whatever is wrong.

holding that information is NOT illegal.. it's ILLEGAL for her to tell them because she's not certified to do so.

only a doctor can diagnose or inform the patient of any issues.

your mom did the right thing, but if I'm not mistaken I think she could have informed her OB/GYN?

not sure how that works, but NO.. she can not legally tell anything, at all. she'd lose her license to practice ultrasound.

I'm an x-ray tech., thought about going into ultrasound, and that was the #1 rule in any & every field.. I hope that woman's doctor catches it! )): God bless her..

One she doesn't think the baby will make it. And two she doesn't know who their Dr is, but she knows the couple has an appointment this week an they get an ultrasound with their Dr. And three the Dr that owns the place wasn't their to inform the couple an that's who usually does it.

She works at a 4d place. They only take pictures an show the gender. Like the comment above me. She didn't have a right to tell them. She could have if she really wanted to. But my mother in law didn't want that in her hands. She feels really bad

Oh I assumed she was a doctor.  The way you wrote this made it seem as if she normally tells people if something is wrong and didn't want to hurt this woman from being overjoyed. Hope the woman finds out soon.

Only an MD is allowed to discuss those things. It is a patient's right to be informed.
