Working at a hospital while pregnant is stressing me out!

Hi, everyone I just need to vent and am not sure what to do. I am 5 weeks pregnant and I'm a surgical tech on an ortho team working three 12 hour shifts a week. I don't want anyone to know I am pregnant yet but I told my boss because I work with total joint cement and radiation. He basically looked at me and said he doesn't think cement will do anything to my baby. But I feel he said this because he knows I'm good at my job and doesn't want me to stop scrubbing totals. Yes, I could refuse cement surgeries but that means my whole team would have to find out I'm pregnant so early. I wish my boss would just keep me out of those surgeries so I wouldn't have to tell but he's like forcing me to tell them instead of being a boss and just keeping me out of there. Quite frankly, it just makes me want to quit because it's not worth the stress or my baby and I have a feeling my coworkers won't be understanding because that means they will have to do more work.

It's just still very early in my pregnancy and I would hate for something to happen. I wouldn't want that attention that's why I'm trying to keep it hush hush until my first Dr visit or close to 12 weeks. I even had another nurse tell me she doesn't think cement fumes do anything either because their isn't any data supporting it, but every hospital tells you to stay out of total joint rooms! I don't get it.

What a **** faced boss. And how come you don't want others to know? Can you transfer to another part of the hospital until after baby. Can you get your doctor to write you a note to get away from those surgeries. Yeah others may get pissy but if they were in your shoes they would do the same thing. So f*** the haters

It's not a doctor but a nurse I know that's not much better he's not very considerate at all.

A doctor is telling you this?  Wow,  he should be more understanding than that.

Do what's best for you and your baby! Listen to your body. Stress isn't good for either one of you. Talk again with your boss to switch jobs for a while, put in for a transfer of that don't work, or find something else. Good luck at whatever you decide to do!
