Thanks for sharing everyone! This has really helped me a lot. I currently live in AZ by the way and the requirements are very simple here thank goodness. @Josh I appreciate your informative comment. Im actually very interested in the Ace curriculum. I am definitely going to look into this a lot more. Thank you for your advice, it has helped a lot! :)

My Mom said she used the Waldorf curriculum. She said it was about $500 per year. But this was also back in the 1990's when I was a kid. She also said to do a some reading if you have not already on "unschooling". Also I hope you don't live in California, that's were I am, and I was looking at some of the requirements and laws they have for homeschooling parents and most of them are pretty ridiculous. Good luck hope this helps !

I'm thinking about home schooling.  They actually have activities and sports for home schooled kids so u don't have to worry about them not getting enough social interaction

I work from home and plan on homeschooling our kids.  Most of my siblings and I went to public school k-12, but my younger brother has had health issues and was homeschooled for a couple of years.  He stays with me and my husband during the summers, and I schooled him one summer.  My parents used the ACE curriculum (Advanced Christian Education;  http://www.aceministries.com/homeschool/).  It definitely did NOT cost them $1650 per year.  It was much less than that.

The curriculum is pretty solid, but does have some extremely religious stuff in it.  Even being Christian, we had to sift through a lot of it.  (It's very KJV, Calvinist theology.) It's a great curriculum for teaching kids to be self-motivated, and each course is tailored to the level your child is actually at.

If you're homeschooling, it's important to make sure that your kids are involved in community sports, fine arts, etc.  Just as long as they spend time around other people their own age.  You should look into local homeschool co-ops, too.  If there's an area you're not comfortable teaching (languages, advanced math or science, etc.), other parents with degrees or experience in various fields teach classes for homeschool kids.  And they're usually free.

FInally, see if there are any homeschool conventions in your area to get some more ideas.  I don't know where you live, but I know there's one coming up in Cincinnati, Ohio this summer.  (https://www.greathomeschoolconventions.com/)

Sorry this post is so long!  I hope it helps!

^hmm, ill have to look into online schooling. One thing I was concerned about was my daughter becoming anti social. She really wants to go to public school but I know she would have a better learning experience one on one. Thanks for sharing ladies! :)

I was home schooled from 5th grade until I graduated highschool. My mom home schooled all of my siblings. And still has my younger brother that she is homeschooling. Half of my school life I had my mom teaching me the rest of the time I did online school (Floridal virtual school) I went to 3 proms that were all home schooled students. And I had a graduation. It depends where you are located. I live in Florida and it has a high rate of children being homeschooled. The online school is free too. my parents kept us active to with kids that went to public school. I did karate for 12 years, art classes for 6 years, softball, choir, And even fencing. I was very sociable even though people think home schoolers are not. I would check with your community and see if they have a program for homeschooling families. That's what we did. So my mom could get help from other mothers or father's that homeschooled. Good luck!

Wow, thank you for sharing your experience. Where did your mom get the curriculum from?(Books, tests, etc) I called a program and she told me the books, supplies, etc would cost $1,650? I was thinking i could go a cheaper route but does that sound ideal to you for one homeschool year?

My Mom home schooled me and my siblings up until I was in 4th grade when we moved back into the USA. My Mom schooled my older sister, me, and younger twin sisters. I think homeschooling is awesome! I had a wonderful experience. The only thing that I would recommend is to follow the basic skill styles that they are teaching in the schools. It will make it so much easier for your child to integrate into school later if that is what you wish. For example my Mom was yet to teach me long division when I enrolled in school when I was in 4th. The other kids had already learned the technique and so I was behind and struggled to keep up in that facet. Also it is important to keep up with the trends. My step son who is 10 is learning a completely different way to multiply and divide using a "box style". I guess it has been shown to be easier for kids to learn this way but I have a hard time keeping up. I had so much fun having my Mom be my teacher, we built an experiment to show how the water table works and would use bean bags to play catch as we learned our times tables. It also helps that I loved to learn. I had my school work done by noon usually and could go out and play after that. My sisters did not share as much of my enthusiasm and would usually take a little longer to do their bookwork. Another tip would be to set time limits on how much time your child should spend on each project. I had a hard time adjusting because I was so used to taking my time on everything and had to learn about deadlines when I did enroll in school. When I first started school I often had to stay in during recess to complete assignments. I also think it is important for a kid to eventually attend school or be part of a group where they get to interact with other kids their age. If not it can be hard for them to do so when they get older. I do feel that my Mom homeschooling me impacted my life greatly for the better. I find that I have a different capacity to learn than others I went to school with, I actually understood things instead of just memorizing and regurgitating for tests.
