You are advising her to perform a procedure that CAN cause harm if done incorrectly and you are not a medical professional. No responsible medical professional would give her this advice.
If you ask your OB they will show you how to check your own cervix. Its not uncommon for woman to want to do it themselves. I'm not saying do it every 5 minutes but you can do it yourself. I don't understand why you are acting like I told her to go jump off a bridge. What I said is just another option. Any time you are trying to induce labor you should call your OB and ask if what you are wanting to do is safe. And their answer can be different for every woman that calls. It depends on the pregnancy and the woman.
I have never, in 16 years, heard any doctor, midwife, nurse or PA tell a woman she can check her cervix or strip her own membranes and yes you can cause more damage than sex can cause. You've been practicing for how long?
If you ask your doctor and you are passed 37 weeks they will tell you its fine. You can't do Any harm to your cervix that sex isn't doing.
You shouldn't be doing either of those things unless you are a medical professional trained to do them.
Stripping your own membranes is not a bad suggestion if your hands are clean it won't do any more harm then the doctor doing it. Its not any worse then checking your own cervix.
Do not strip your membranes your self. That is the most assinine and irresponsible suggestion I've seen on here yet.
Eliza, nothing will cause you to dilate until your body is ready. At 37 weeks, you can start taking 2 evening primrose oil capsules ORALY. That will help to soften and ripen your cervix over the next weeks.
Look it up, its not hard but looking it up will make more sense then me trying to explain it.
Strip your membranes you can do it yourself!
Have sex! Haha but seriously, sperm helps to soften and ripen the cervix for delivery.
