dieting?

I am 9 weeks pregnant and have gained 8 lbs. I know it's too much, and my gut is unappealing.  Is it safe to diet in the first trimester? I want me and my little tadpole to be as healthy as possible.  If it is safe, does anyone have a safe diet to try? All replies appreciated.  (This is my 3rd pregnancy).

Just east higher quality foods... fruits and veggies.  And move more, walk.

What to expect when you're expecting (the book) has a section called the best odds diet. Basically a really good comparison so you can get the extra nutrients bubba needs without taking in too many empty calories. I just try to make sure whatever I eat has some nutritional value, more likely to get full if the food you eat isn't empty. And drink lots of water! Sometimes you think you are hungry when really its mild dehydration.

Definitely not! I did because during my 1st few weeks I gained 10lbs, but after going to the dr. Found out I developed keytones (which is normally found in diabetics). They told me my body was starving & feeding off of itself so if I continued, the baby would suffer.

Dieting is not safe. However, healthy eating is. Just make good choices.

Ask your Dr an appropriate calorie intake for a pregnant woman. Try to eat within that calorie range everyday and get those calories from healthy foods. Raw is always good, like vegetables and fruits. Use extra lean meats whenever accessible.

I don't think it's recommended to diet. If you just want to keep track of your calories, try the app My Fitness Pal. It'll let you know if you need more protein, carbs or fats.
Just feed that baby, but of course don't go nuts.
