As a nurse catheters are not necessary. Technically neither is an iv, however the iv is recommended to stay hydrated. Every patient has numerous rights. One right is the right to know. Ask questions because you legally have to be informed about everything that happens to you. You also have the right to refuse any treatment. If you do not want a catheter don't get one. You can use a bed pan if need be.
I opted for an epidural and honestly I did not feel it when they put it in, It stung when the meds wore off and they had to take it out. The worst thing for me was to remeber if I had to pee because I lost the need to pee for about two days.
Ahhhh i hate thoea things!!!! I hope its not necisary
I think its only of you opt for the epidural.
I've had 3vaginal births don't remember ever having been cathed for them.
I had a catheter with my 2 previous deliveries..they usually only give it if you get an epidural because you lose the feeling down there and won't know when you have to go
