mastitis and breast abscesses

Has anyone had to deal with mastitis and or breast abscess? I had my baby last week and I've either got mastitis or breast abscesses AGAIN /: i was trying to pump but i can't deal with the pain anymore yet I'm scared to stop >< did anyone give up or stop breastfeeding/pumping? What was your outcome? I only ever get a tea spoon worth of milk out of my bad side, even had blood and small clots come out :l

You need antibiotics asap hun. Its not good to let it go on without treatment especially if ur bleeding. Get in a hot shower and massage them well until they soften a bit. See a doctor asap. Im a mom of 3 and had mastitis twice. U dont wana let it get too bad and sounds like ur already at that point. Take care.

I'm in the middle of mastitis right now.  It felt like it developed within a few hours, fever, chills, my whole body hurt.  My left breast was so tight and swollen that I could only pump a few drops out, just enough to cover the bottom of the bottle (before the infection I was pumping about 1 and a half ounces from that side) and I was sobbing every 3 hours trying to pump because it hurt so bad. And usually sobbing in between pumping too, especially when the milk would let down. It hurt so bad!  I tried all the home remedies you hear about, heat, cold, cabbage leaves, pineapple juice, shower, massage, etc. Nothing worked. Then the chills and fever got so bad I couldn't move from my bed, couldn't sleep.  Ibuprofen didn't do anything, temp of 101.5.  I had already started antibiotics.  Finally I took a percocet. Within 30 minutes there was absolutely no pain and I could pump easily.  I'm still not getting much milk from that side, but I can handle pumping fine now.  And it allowed me to rest and sleep and relax which is important for healing.  I can't begin to explain the relief that one percocet gave me. It kept me from giving up on making milk for my baby.  I was ready to quit. I haven't even had to take another one and it's been 15 hours since I took it.  I wish I had taken it the night before when I was in agony all night.

Omg I am soo sorry!  I have chronic mastitis problems when nursing.  Do not stop nursing on that side though because your milk will continue to build. Put a warm towel on the clotted area and try to dangle feed your little one. Basically lay your baby down and straddle your boob over the mouth to let gravity help. If you have a fever and feel flush your clit has turned to full blown mastitis and you may need antibiotics to help. I had my breast abscess and as odd as it sounds the pain went away when it did that but you could physically see the problem area. See your doc immediately if you think it abscessed. And you can continue to nurse during and after. Mine happened at 6 weeks and I nursed for a year. Good luck sorry so long.
