Dental work during pregnancy?

I saw a dentist today because I've had a lot of serious pain in my mouth, sore swollen gums and all four wisdom teeth coming in at once. The dentist said I need to have a deep cleaning (which they use lidocain to numb) and then a couple weeks after that I need to have all my wisdom teeth removed before they start compacting and pushing my other teeth around, but I read you shouldn't have any dental care aside from routine cleanings while pregnant and if in an emergency, you should only do it after the first trimester but im only five weeks. Has anyone had lidocain used during the first trimester and been OK? Or had wisdom teeth removed? I don't want to hurt my little one but I can't handle the pain on top of all the pregnancy symptoms, Its just to much. Thank you in advance.

in july i had to have a deep clean, i told the dentist i was 7 weeks pregnant and she gave me lidocaine with adrenaline....it didn't work..i felt every thing and ran out the dentist in tears...just over a week later i miscarried my baby...at first i didn't think of the anaesthetic i was given..it wasn't until about a month later after i had grieved that i researched it and i found out that lidocaine can cause organ failure in the foetus in early pregnancy!! i took this to the GDC and i received a letter saying that the dentist carried out correct procedure! i'm not convinced so I'm looking into it further, i need justice for my angel baby

Most OB's recommend that you continue with your regular dental visits because if you develop a dental related infection during pregnancy it can cause preterm labor among other things. That being said, I have read that 1st trimester work is the biggest gamble & have personally had a root canal done during my second trimester. My dentist would not use lidocaine because it's known to have affects on pregnant woman but he did use carbocaine whose direct affects on unborn babies are not really known. I did a lot of reading & was EXTREMELY nervous about using anything however I could not go another 20+ weeks without having the work done. I scheduled my OB appointments within 2 days of each session (including scans & ultrasounds) just to ensure the baby was still developing properly. Talk to your doctor's & voice your concerns in depth & STAY AWAY from lidocaine while pregnant!!

I have had dental work done at all stages of pregnancy my dentist says that it's best in the 2nd trimester but can be done at anytime. As far as the wisdom teeth they told me I needed them out when I was pregnant with my 2nd I opted to wait till I had the baby. You can do it while your pregnant but you won't be able to be put out for it and won't be able to take as strong of a pain med or antibiotic.

I had a tooth removed but I was 18 weeks at the time.  I also have heard that it's not recommended in the first trimester.

When I had move done they couldn't give me epinephrine (which helps reduce bleeding) because I was pregnant, and, I couldn't take ibuprofen.
