missed heartbeat??

Does anyone know if it is possible for a doctor to miss the heartbeat at 9 weeks? I have not had any symptoms of a miscarriage and have continued with pregnancy symptoms. They did my first internal ultrasound and said they didn't see a heartbeat and the baby measured 8 weeks. They have me scheduled for a D and C next week, but if there is a chance it was missed or something was weird and my baby has a heartbeat I don't want them to do it. Has anyone has this happen?

They should have done a beta HCG level on you too. This tests the amount of pregnancy hormone in your body. If there was no heartbeat on the ultrasound but other structures were established such as a gestational sac, yolk sac, fetal pole and embryo, this bloodwork will establish if the pregnancy is failing or has failed and not just too early to see anything. If it was too early, they would do frequent beta HCG levels and compare to see if the amount is rising appropriately or not. If the ultrasound showed a gestational sac that was irregularly shaped than that too is another indicator of a miscarriage. My point is, there's not just one thing they look at to establish if a miscarriage has taken place or not. If you were supposed to be 9 weeks than a D&C would be the best option. If you wait to miscarry on your own, you could potentially get very sick (toxic). This also does not assure that everything was passed which would ultimately lead to a D&C anyway.
I wish you the best of luck and I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

before I was induced to have my son at 17 wks because they didn't hear his heartbeat at the 16wk u/s. I demanded an ultrasound before they did anything.
it broke my heart to see him lying there motionless when only 2wks prior he was moving around and kicking all over with a strong heartbeat and no abnormalities at all.
it will crush you, but make them look again.

In the nicest way possible... Don't let them give you a DC!!! MY babies heart beat barely picked up at nine weeks. And that was at the end if my ninth week. Praying for you!

Theybdidnt see my babies heartbeat or hear it at 9 weeks. I have a front placenta which made it difficult on the Doppler. Then ibmeasured small 7 weeks because I ovulate late. I waited 2 weeks then checked again and there he was....besting away. I'm now 24 weeks

Get a second opinion when I was about 7 weeks they did an internal ultrasound and said baby only was at 4 weeks and she had stopped growing. I had another ultrasound the next week and low and behold I was 8 weeks along everything just fine. I'm 23 weeks now

I have heard of it happening before where they haven't seen a heart beat and turns out the baby was in an awkward position but whether that is completely trustworthy or not I don't know. I really hope everything turns out great with your baby ! I had an awful week where the doctors told me I would miscarry my baby and a few weeks down the line my baby is perfectly healthy at 3 months. Just stay positive !

In rare cases they miss this,  or the baby isn't far enough along.

Unless it is a health risk to you I'd wait to miscarry.  Then you know for sure.  D&Cs are harder on you than a natural miscarriage.
