stabbing vaginal pain!

Yesterday while at the doctors I was dilated at all, but having contractions. Today my contractions have gotten worse, but I've had a shooting pain in my vagina (tmi sorry) twice today that both have only lasted about 30secs but gosh did they hurt!! Could this mean I'm starting to dilated?

I was always told that the stabbing pains inside the vagina was the babies head grinding against the cervix...

I have been having the same thing going on the past few days. However I have no idea if I was dilated last time I went to the doctor. I was talking to my grandpa about it, since he used to work in the medical field,  and he said that the sharp stabbing pain inside the vagina could be due to dilating.
