why do some babies die right after birth?

I found out earlier today a girl I went to school with baby die right after she had him..): how sad and scary..what can be the cause of that?

My daughter died in the womb the umbilical cord detatched from her I was 6 months pregnant

Yes, very sad.  If the baby died right after birth, it could have been a birth defect such as a heart issue, lung issue, brain issue.  SIDS usually happens after a baby has arrived home.  The average age of a SIDS death is 2 to 4 months of age.  

It is hard to say exactly what happened  But very horrible to hear of.

If it was right after birth, the baby probably had something wrong with it. My sister's son passed away after birth though, but we was only 23 weeks along. There are many many different factors of why your friends child past away. It could have been anything.

Sudden infant death syndrome. Most SIDS cases tho are casued by things in the crib like pillows, toys, bumper, pads, etc.
