I do know that if your wife has blood work to test for down syndrome your results can be way off. Our chances came back 1 in 10 and the genetic councilor told us that they are skewed with multiples, most tests are designed for singletons in mind. We did the amnio and ruled out down syndrome. Just keep this in mind when you get results that might scare you.
During a U/S there shouldn't be any smaller or larger babies even in multiples, my twins are on the same track as a singleton baby and the U/S is most accurate form of finding out the gestation of any pregnancy.
Most babies grow at the same rate whether multiple or singleton. If any of your babies do share the same placenta there could be possiblity of one of the two babies that shares the placenta could be significantly smaller or larger than the other one.
Your gf/wife will have to have the babies much earlier than normal, the usual time to have quads is about 30 weeks. So be prepared to have preemie babies and spending some time in the NICU for quite a while.
In my opinion, you should write down all of your questions and take them to the next appt. And invest in a multiples book. I refer to the When You're Expecting Twins, Triplets, or Quads. Also, make sure to see a specialist for the pregnancy and not just a reg OB. Good Luck!
Some of you already now about my situation, I have a post about being the father of quadruplets.....
Anyways I do have a few questions that maybe a few of you mom's or dad's that have multiples could possibly give me answers to....
1. Can having multiples effect the gestational age estimates on the U/S?
2. Do multiples grow any faster or slower than that of a woman carrying a single child?
3. What are some risks or concerns I should be aware of when taking care of multiples?
I will have some more questions later but for now these are the only ones I can think of at this time... But I will greatly appreciate if any one may have some answers for me.....
Thank you
Sincerely,
Knyght
well, i went to the doctor yesterday for 2nd day blood levels. they were supposed to double however they ended up being almost 5 times higher. he said my probability is 33 % chance that it may be multiples because my hormones are so high. my progesterone is crazy high....15000. if your levels are really high, could be multiples!
good luck
