Thank-you for the information!  As soon as my IVF specialist saw that we were having identical twins she told us about that syndrome.  I have read a little too much online and got myself a bit freaked out.  My husband was at a hospital in CT last week (his company sells neonatal cooling blankets) and talked to a neonatal specialist from Yale that calmed his nerves.  He said my b/c of my age and Mi/Di twins we should be safe...just extra monitoring.   I am very excited to go back on Wednesday and see how they are progressing.  I feel like everything is so delicate now compared to when we had a single!  I am super excited though and will do anything I can to keep these babies healthy.

I looked at your profile and saw that you have a 01/01 due date!  How fun!  Is that your 40 week due date?  Do your doctors have any idea of what date they hope you make it until? I have been so tired and a bit naseuos since 6 weeks (i am 7 weeks and 2 days now).  Did you find that got better in your 2nd trimester?

my twins were considered mono/di identical....in english that means 1 placenta (they share a large placenta) and 2 sacs

identical twins can also be mono/mono which is a huge high risk because both babies are in the same sac and share the same placenta....

your u/s tech should be able to tell you which type of twins you have...i will forewarn and not to scare you but to educate you that identical twins run a risk of twin to twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS)....i was freaked out when somebody told me this.....TTTS is english terms happens when one baby steals the nutrients from the other baby.....i want you know that there are various treatment methods available if you go down that route....early detection is key

around 15 weeks my baby b started measuring smaller than baby a and my risk for TTTS went up....my u/s were increased to weekly, i was told to drink boost shakes (protein is essential) and bedrest....as the weeks have gone on baby b is still smaller but the other factors they look for with TTTS have decreased and so i am still on bedrest but my u/s are bi-weekly and my doc does not think i am that much at risk for TTTS anymore but they are monitoring

again i know its scary but educatiion is really important....if you have a facebook page i found a ton of help, information and support from the "The Twin to Twin Transfusion Syndrome Foundation TTTS" group page

please feel free to email me anytime...

congrats again :)

Omg how crazy! How do you feel about possibly having twins again? Our twin girls just turned 8 months old and there is no way that I could do it all again. I wont lie its ALOT of work. But im also thinking that if we get pregnant and have just one baby that it will feel like a breeze. Keep us updated!

Congratulations!!!!  How has it been?  We were SO shocked.  We actually did IVF so we were expecting fraternal twins if anything.  We found out on 8/12/2011 that we had one baby...then yesterday we went for our 2nd ultrasound and it was 2!!!!  Do you know if your babies are sharing a placenta?  Our doctor thinks that ours are which makes us slightly higher risk.  Any information would be great!

I just found out yesterday I am expecting identical twins.  I am BEYOND excited!  I only 6 week and 6 days pregnant so I have a long way to go.  Anyone else pregnant with identicals?  I am now due around March 23rd (was April 13th).  I did do IVF but from everything I am ready the fact that they are identical has nothing to do with IVF...total fluke :).
