Positive test after miscarriage

I found out i was pregnant the 2nd week in August. My doctor did a quanative because I have had several miscarriages before. My quanative came back at 5,400 and the doctor ordered a trans-vag sonogram. We saw a yolk sac on the sono. On 09/06/07 I went to the hospital with bleeding and period like cramps. They did a quanative and it showed my numbers to be at 3,800. They also did a trans-vag sono again and they saw nothing. Since the miscarriage I have still had all the symptoms of pregnancy (nausa, frequent urination, ect) and figured that my system is just kind of out of whack. I felt misrable yesterday so I looked on the internet and found that it is possible to lose a twin. My doctor did not check my quanatives again because of my previous miscarriages and just ruled it as a Full Spont Miscarriage. I took two home pregnancy test last night and they came back positive. My doctor wants to have me come in for a quanative, but Iam leaving for vacation today. He says thats he's not sure what is going on. Can someone tell me if this is possible? Could the HPT be right?

Hello,

I agree with Laura.  It can take up to 30-60 days, roughly, for the hormone of pregnancy to be cleared from the body.  It is likely that is why the HPT was positive.  Nevertheless, it will be reassuring to you and your physician to repeat the quant to see exactly what it is.  I would stay in town for that.

It is possible to have a positive pregnancy test for weeks after a miscarriage and also to have some pregnancy symptoms until your hormone levels go down to zero.

i had a quant test done on Friday and my levels are at 1020, so they are slowly going down. The doctor said that as soon as they go down to a normal level and I have a few normal periods, we can start trying again. We will probably start trying around the end of Dec - beginning of the year. I had a miscarriage at the beginning of July, and started trying again right away and got pregnant again with this last baby that I lost at the beginning on Sept. This time I am taking the doctor's advice! The reason I am miscarrying is because I do not have enough blood surrounding my uterine wall, so I am taking a baby aspirin and a prenatal everday. Wish us luck!

Hello, I had a  miscariage about 2 weeks ago, but only bleed 4 one week, the second week was crazy cause I spotted brown every once in a while, and some days I saw nothing!!!! I had sac that measured 8.4 weeks, but they could not find baby, so I had to terminate with pills. I went back 4 follow up last week, and they tested my hcg levels to see if they were going up or down, and they told me 2 take a test in 3 weeks, if positive then I have 2 go back to the doctor!!!!! I have 2 call back 2 get results, and I have not done that yet. What does it mean if they are going up, could i still be pregnant!!!!

Isn't the blood around the uterine wall caused by progesterone? I think that is the hormone that does that. Were your progesterone levels normal?

Hi i'm new here. i've been reading everyones posts, Laura1985 i'm really sorry about what your going through. I also had a missed miscarriage at the end of June at 8 1/2 weeks. i recently found out i'm pregnant again. Now my question is my last menstrual period was 9/11. I usually have 26 day cycles. I have had a quant test done and it came back at 111. I had to go this morning for another to see if it doubles or not. i'll know tomorrow i'm terrified to go through another mc. My last one i had no mc symptoms, went to the er myself for a routine ultrasound to get exact gestation age, to find out the heart stopped. now how far pregnant does this number make me? 111 seems to be low.

i was never told my progesterone levels. so i have no clue. spotting brown very lightly for the past 4 days and still feeling sick, peeing A LOT. Doctor wants me back in for another quant test. pregnancy is not possible because we have not tried.

to keri, if your levels were at 11, i would think that you would be pregnant. i have gone through this four times, and to my knowledge anything under 6 means you are not pregnant. i wish you the best of luck!

My lmp was 9/13, when I went and had a quant test on day 28 it was 368, what day of your cycle did you have the quant done? I wouldn't be too nervous when I had one done on day 25 it was only in the 70's. When do you get the results back?

Hmm, by my numbers it looks to me like i'm going into my third week instead of 5th. i'm confused. how far did they say you are? I know my ovulation days were pretty screwy since my dnc on june 22nd. what do you think?

They say I'm 4 wks and a few days, I haven't really seen the Dr. yet because it's so early he's really just been sending me for blood work. I get my results from yesterday back today I'll let you know!

Keep me posted today. my doctor called and said she wants me to go in for a transvaginal us next week. i guess to see exactly how far i am. i really don't want to because its gonna do nothing but worry me. i think it will be way to early to detect a heartbeat. i don't think this worrying ever comes to an end. keep in touch with me , its neat to find someone thats due the same time as me. I just called the office, results aren't in yet. I'll keep you posted as soon as I hear anything. Thanks for all your information. I think if they would give me an u/s I'd feel better just to know that s/thing was actually growing even if it doesn't have a heartbeat.

I just got my numbers hcg is 2270, progesterone 28.50, to me they seem really high. Should I be concerned that it's more than one??

Hey! if anyone tells you it looks like theres a chance for twins, be sure to let me know right away. because thats what my numbers at. and we're only a few days apart. just kidding, i think your numbers are great! stop worrying so much! stress isn't good! thats what my numbers are and the doctor said they looked great. i don't have to go anymore for blood work, thank god! do you have to go again? i think its a singleton.

My levels for hgc at 5 weeks were over 5,800! I am wondering now if i could ahve been pregnant with twins. I am still having symptoms of pregnancy, and it has been over 7 weeks since my mc. did you have another quant hcg done after the one that showed 1020, I would think that would be an easy enough way to tell. If it goes up from there then you are still pregnant if it goes down further then you're probably not.

I spoke with the office, they said he didn't say a thing about two just to come in on Monday for an u/s. Time will tell. I guess I just have to be patient.

Good for you! it sounds like he's happy with what hes seeing and just wants to see exactly how far you are? laura1985 i agree with Mommy_3 you should have another beta check to see if your numbers doubled since then.
Mommy_3 my last level was 2259 and twins were not a concern with my doc. i am getting a transvaginal next week, she said that it may even be too early to see anything. i hope not. thats all i need right now!

I havent been able to go back to the doctor for another quant yet because my boss wont let me off work early! On top of that my insurance hasnt kicked in yet so the lab is charging me 113$ a pop to get a quant. It's getting pretty expensive. Going to wait another two weeks and go in and get tested. The last quant I had was on 09/28. We'll see I guess!

I actually went on Thursday and all they were able to see was a sac, which is really all they were expecting to see, I was only 5 wks on Thursday. I go back again this thursday hopefully by then they should see a fetal pole & heartbeat.
