pregnant??? Advice please!!

Hi I am really confused at the mo, I have quite an irregular cycle which can range anything from 32 days - 42 days. I have been trying to conceive for 8 months and my last cycle was from the 2nd June till 11th July (40 day cycle) and this was a very different period to anything that I normally experience it started off brown then went into a red then spotted, it only lasted like 2-3 days which is very strange for me. Anyhow, now it has been 32 days and no sign of my period, I dont really no how long my cycle shud last an when I should test as they are always irregular. I took my last test about 3 weeks ago which was negative should I wait a little longer to test again??? advice please!?

thanks for your comment back, would you advise me to go straight to the doctor or wait until my period comes this month? I do suffer with my stomach through ibs but i never really have painful periods or pain in my lower abdomen always the top of my stomach? Oh I also should mention that I had an ultrasound scan last year on my abdomen because of my ibs and it never shown anything on my ovaries :/ but i also no that cysts can just develop. I dont want to waste the doctors time you see so your advise would be much appreciated. Thank You.

Hi!
Any cycle that is longer than 31 days is probably an anovulatory cycle -- in other words no ovulation took place.  If you don't ovulate, you won't conceive.  If you were my patient, I would begin a work up for polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) I would check a TSH prolactin level and FSH as well as a 17 oh progesterone level.  Depending upon the results, I would very likely start you on something like Clomid or Femara and possibly Metformin as well. These medications would help you ovulate more consistently and therefore speed up the time to conception.
Good luck!
