pregnancy std

Dear Doctor

I am in A real bind. 22 weeks pregnant, and have yesterday been diagonsed with gonorrea(std).(thanks to ex boyfriend)
This morning I flew for work to Angola and have left my medication at home. This place is very not setup medically, doctors here don't even know what an std (I TRIED TODAY BEFORE i LEFT THE MAIN TOWN) is let alone what medicines, absolutely nothing for std, as I am working here for 4 weeks now and need your help, as I reasearched the proper medicines on the way here to make sure before I left my country the doctor had prescribed the right drugs, he gave me Tavanic levofloxacin(which I left at home) and have now realised that it is from the fluroquinolones family and not safe during pregnancy.expected dose was 2x 500mg tablets one each day.

Can you please tell me what I need to order as I have no other choice in the matter and can't leave here till my work is done in 4 weeks.
I can order what I need to arrive by AIR post to arrive  in a week, can you tell me what I need and what is safe to take for a pregnant women with gonorrea as I am in pain and don't want pelvic inflamatory disease or any damage to be done.

Any help would be appreciated
type of antibiotic and and quantity(preferbly as small as possible) please give 2-3 types if possible.I am allergic to nothing and have a healthy child.

Thanks so much

Hi!
Glad to hear he's your ex!
And you are correct--fluoroquinolones are NOT recommended during pregnancy.  Gonorrhea tends to be fairly easy to treat.  The CDC recommends Rocephin 125mg which is injectable(IM) and also Zithromax 1g orally (for chlamydia) too.
Alternatives would be Cefixime 400mg po or Spectinomycin 2g injection (IM).

Here is the link to the CDC guidelines:
http://www.cdc.gov/std/Gonorrhea/arg/OR_treatment_guideline2005.pdf

If all else fails, any kind of penicillin with clavulinic acid that you can get your hands on would be better than nothing until you can get appropriate therapy!

Good luck!

You sound like you have a very interesting life!
