Hope for the future!

My son was born 8 wks premature. That was nearly 20 years ago. He weighed 3lbs, was on 100% life support, oxygen, the whole nine yards. He was fed through a feeding tube for a long time, stayed in NICU for 29 days, had apnea, had jaundice, lungs were not fully developed, etc. I was told he would not live. I just wanted to give you all hope for the future.
He is about to turn 20 years old. He is 6ft3in and 280lbs now. He had no learning disabilities and after heart surgery at 18 months old, has no health problems. He did well and graduated high school, now works and attends college. He will also be getting married on Nov. 1 of this year.
Prayer works!!!!!

Hi,

I am 38 years old and expecting my first baby in about 6 - 8 weeks.

My twin sister and I were 10 weeks premature.  I weighed about 3 lb 3 oz and she weighted about 2 lb 10 oz.  We had some motor control problems as kids, and mild hearing problem (no hearing aids required), but other than that are intelligent normal (if a little eccentric) people.

So, yes, there's  hope.

If it helps I was born 3 mo. premature (@26wks), 2lb 10oz,  in 1985. I had Broncho Pulminary Displasia, jaundice, and whatever else premature babies have. I was in the hospital for the first 7 months of my life.

After I was 2 years old, I was off a trach tube and was pretty much normal from then on out. At 8 years old, I had the stoma from the trach tube closed, and have been otherwise normal.

I have exercise enduced asthma and a reduced airway from all the ventilators, etc. I used an inhaler when I was 14-16, but stopped since I didn't feel like using it. Basically when I exercise I wheeze, and that's the extent of my medical problems.

Also, I have some eye issues, which I believe nowadays is corrected immediately with laser correction. I have strabismus, amblyopia, astigmatism in my right eye, which is corrected with glasses. I have 20/40 in my right eye corrected, and 20/10 in my left eye corrected.

If it helps I rarely get sick. After I was about 2 years old, I didn't really get sick anymore, besides a common cold once every few years. I figure maybe all the drugs as an infant boosted my immune system so that I only get the flu once every 4-5 years.

I'm 23 now, 5'8, 140lb. I was medically disqualified from the military, but that's really the only thing I was ever held back from.
