The safest way to wean off Xanax is to set up an appointment with a psychiatric medication manager and work out a taper program. Most PCPs don't have a clue in hell how to do this properly and push people way too fast.
Most psychiatric clinics have PMMs on staff, hospitals have them and your doctor should also be able to refer you to one.
You don't say how long you've been taking the Xanax, but the dose is small, so that is in your favor, but Xanax is one of the most difficult benzos to w/d from and do expect to spend a couple MONTHS doing this if you want to avoid as much discomfort as possible. If you have been taking it less than 4 months, your w/d could possibly be done faster, but you must go at your own speed.
We are not doctors on this forum and legally cannot tell you how to alter your medications. You could talk to your pharmacist who may be able to offer you some guidance in discontinuing the Xanax. They do know their drugs!
Sorry I couldn't be more directly helpful.
Best of luck
