Regardless of HSV-1 results, around half of HSV-2 results with ELISA ratios around 2.0 are false positive. The available data suggest that Biokit is an effective tie breaker. However, WB is the ultimate gold standard to resolve possible false positive results. I see no need for it, but it's fine with me if you want to have it done. It's your money.
No more discussion please, and no more new threads on the topic. Thanks.
Wow, really? I have been leary of relaxing because I came across an older post (from 2006) in which you said:
"Most false positives occur in people with positive HSV-1 results. In people without HSV-1, any HSV-2 result above 1.1 is true positive."
Maybe I'm paranoid about the Biokit results, but if you could indulge me one last followup - why is a tie breaker (Western Blot or another IGG test) not recomended in this case? Could an ealry infection yield the differing results?
Thank you again.
Start counting those chickens. As best we know from the most up-to-date research, you can rely on the negative Biokit resultt. You don't have HSV-2.
