Welcome to the Forum. I'll be pleased to answer your questions:
1. If you have pharyngeal gonorrhea can it pass to your genital area? I have had no symptoms
And the urine test was negative recently I just don't know if it can pass through your body and infect someone when they give oral sex to you over two weeks after treatment
Both gonorrhea and chlamydial infections are local infections which are only passed through direct contact. Thus you could have gonorrhea in the throat and not the genital tract or the other way around. Thus, with your negative urine test, you could potentially spread the infection to others only through oral contact with them.
2. Assuming the treatment was successful, and your thoughts on the likelihood of that are sought, will the partner I had sex with this week be likely to have contracted gonorrhea if the result from today's test is negative. How long does it take azithromycin to clear it, assuming it comes back negative. Would it have worked within one week?
If your most recent partner only performed oral sex on you and you had a negative urine test, then he would not be at risk for gonorrhea. To be on the safe side, many providers would treat him nonetheless but there is little biological reason to do this.
Gonorrhea is killed VERY rapidly by antibiotic treatment- within hours of taking the medication.
I hope these answers address your questions. if not, please follow-up for clarification. EWH
Hi thanks for that really helpful advice.
I am waiting for the results of the urine and swab tests for gonnorhea and wondered how often azithromycin as 2g would be successful?
From what you tell me, it seems there is little or no possibility the most recent partner could have gonnorea of the throat if I test negative in the urine test? Jut making sure I am getting this
Yes, you did understand me about your partner's risk for gonorrhea of the throat.
there are few studies to give us a firm estimate of the effectiveness of azithromycin for gonorrhea of the throat but I would guess that it is likely to cure your infection. EWH
Thanks for that , last question I promise.
The results are not back, but I checked my urine tonight and it was cloudy.. It had not been like that before. I did not drink a lot today . However I also feel like the smell of urine is strong and I might be going more often to the toilet. There is no discharge there at all.
Sorry am just worrying , and although I have had the negative urine test a few weeks ago, am just worried azithromycin. Might not have worked,
Your fears are not warranted. Neither the color nor the smell have anything to do with the risk for gonorrhea. EWH
