Makes no difference in my opinion or advice.
I also left out something that may have been a factor. I put rubbing alcohol on my penis/scrotum after the massage---and I put a good amount (even around the pee hole) on after the 9/11/07 vaginal sex---(I did this to kill germs--(and no shower available)--I know now that this is a no-no). I read that chemical irritants may cause urethitis and Doc HHH said so in this post. My innitial symptoms were burning sensation around scrotum/tingling/mild irritation inside near tip of penis/frequent urination/dribble/cloudy urine----I had no discharge(even when milking the penis). These symptoms were heightened about a day and 1/2 after 9/11/07.
I've actually been to Dr. Arani before. What did he say was the cause of the NGU? Doc, to clarify, Dr. Arani performs a urethra swab test for NGU.
wasn't trying to pub the clinic---I just wanted clear up possible doubts of misdiagnosis. If someone is low on cash I would suggest a free clinic because this did hit me in the pocket.
Also the doctor is very reputable. He was on TV. Dr. Arani was chosen as TOP AMERICA PHYSICIAN by Consumer's Research Council of America in 2007. The clinic is for profit---It cost me about 425.00 for the test/office visit/meds---the service was great and I paid because I wanted quick results. I could have went to planned parenthood for free but the appointment would have been in 3-4 days.
Just to clear some things up: The doctor dabbed the head of my penis on a small flat piece of glass and got a sample of my urine which was off color and cloudy. Also one of my symptoms was I frequent urination. They have a lab on site and gave me the results in about 25-30min.
My wife hasn't performed fellatio in about 5-6 months.
I know anything is possible but I 100% believe my wife has not had sex outside of marraige.
Thanks for your help
First, you don't say how the NGU was diagnosed. According to the history you give, I would wonder whether the diagnosis is accurate. The symptoms you describe are not typical, so if the STD clinic provider did not actually document an abnormal urethral discharge and/or inflammation (white blood cells) in your urethra, the diagnosis may be in question. And you are exactly right that NGU symptoms don't show up in 2 days; it always takes at least 5 days and usually 7-14 days. On the other hand, most STD clinics' diagnoses of NGU probably are reliable. But even if you had NGU, some cases are relapses of past infections, so you didn't necessarily catch it recently.
But the rest of my responses assume you indeed have a new case of true NGU.
You cannot catch NGU through a condom or by a hand job. So it seems sex with your wife is the only possibility. Some cases of NGU are due to respiratory viruses that can also infect the genital tract, in particular some strains of adenovirus. And adenovirus often causes conjunctivitis, so that sort of fits. Other cases of NGU are due to normal oral bacteria, so if your wife performed fellatio on you, that's a possible source. Note that neither of these possibilities has any implication about your wife having other sex partners.
Bottom line 1: Confirm that a definite diagnosis of NGU was made. If not, your symptoms are equally compatible with chemical irritation (e.g., from lubricant, especially if the condoms contained spermicide) or with something else nonsexually transmitted.
Bottom line 2: Just complete your antibiotic treatment as prescribed, then follow up with the STD clinic if you remain concerned.
Bottom line 3: Your wife should be treated if that hasn't yet been done. It's a good bet she doesn't really need it, but that is standard practice, and better safe than sorry.
Good luck-- HHH, MD
Sorry---3rd question was the eye problem with my spouse....and the title should have been Which exposure most likely caused NGU infection.
