Contact with vaginal secretions during frottage in the absence of penetration is still a no risk event, even if your massuese did happen to have a bacterail STI other than syphilis. No change in my assessment of advice. EWH
Dr. Hook, many thanks for your response it is what I thought/hoped the answer would be but it certainly puts my mind at ease to read it referenced to this particular situation.
From my readings of other posts on this site I was already fairly comfortable about the low risk of exposure of HIV etc. However I was/am more concerned about bacterial infections.
I did not notice any lesions but if she had discharge secreting from her vagina whilst "frottaging" would this change your answer at all? (I'm fairly certain it was just a build up of the massage oil but my memory may be playing tricks on me) I read on a different post that this might increase the risk of contracting gonorrhea.
I don't mean to push this subject too much but I am in a long term relationship and the last thing I want is to put her at risk.
The sort of genital to genital rubbing you describe without penetration is often described as "frottage". This is a very, very low risk event. without penetration there is certainly no risk for HIV, gonorrhea, chlamydia, or NGU. If your partner had lesions there is a theoretical risk of acquiring herpes, syphilis or HPV in this way but I have never seen a case of any of these infections transmitted in this way and it would be most rare for this to lead to infection.
My advice would be to not worry at all about this exposure. I see no medical reason for testing or for concern.
I hope this comment is helpful to you. EWH
