Nervous about stupid night

Dear Doctors,

About 16 weeks ago I visited a Massage parlor in Shanghai.  The woman performed "light" fellatio -1 minute (with mouthwash?) and licked my anus. Immediately after I showered and cleaned.  I was extremely nervous after the occurrence and scoured these forums.  I learned that these methods are "an inefficient way to transmit std's".   This made me feel better.  However, at that time I was working in a hot environment and did get an itchy anus for about 3-4 days.  I also thought I felt a pain in my lower right abdomen.  This last feeling I have had before but it still concerned me. In fact I have had both those happen before.  Our genitals never touched.  This week (16 weeks later) I found a rubor like mark on my glans ridge which scared me to no end.  It became visible after a very hot day of work -(sweat soaked through two t-shirts in extreme heat work conditions) very constrictive pants. I read this forum again and got nervous but learned about balanitis and rubor.  I bought some hydrocortizone and applied.  It seems to be dissipating.  The mark did not have multiple raised pimples that I see on web photos of early stage herpes.   I am nervous because I fear the symptoms are too coincident.  Could I be just scaring myself?

Any help would be much appreciated.

This sounds most like nothing abnormal at all, i.e. some sort of natural variation in your penile skin.  Clearly it is not an STD -- which is far as this forum goes.  If you remain concerned (which apparently you are), show it to a health care provider, preferably a dermatologist.  Don't use hydrocortisone (or anything else) for at least 10 days before it is examined.

Itching alone rarely is a symptom of herpes or any other STD.  And anal itching is so common it has its own Latin name, pruritus ani.  That translates as itchy anus, so it only states the obvious.  It is one of the most common of all symptoms in all people.  It has nothing to do with the sexual encounter described here.

Welcome to the STD forum.  Thanks for reading other threads.

You correctly learned that the exposures you had were unlikely to result in any STD.  Further, your symptoms don't sound like any STD.  Based on your description, I'm not sure you had balanitis.  When skin color varies with warmth and humidity, often it is just related to more dense blood vessels in the skin, that results in variations in color with increased or decreased blood flow, i.e. nothing abnormal.  It isn't an STD, and balanitis also is not usually caused by STDs.

As for the "coincidence" of timing, it really doesn't mean much.  Think of it this way:  During any 16 week period, millions of people have massages and sexual exposures and millions get various genital symptoms.  By random association, both things happen about the same time.  It doesn't mean one caused the other.

So yes, it seems likely you are "just scaring yourself".  Of course see a doctor or clinic if you are convinced your penis looks abnormal.  But no STD is likely.

In case you are interested, here is a thread that explains why STDs are rare after the kinds of exposure you describe.  See the comment at the end:  http://www.medhelp.org/posts/HIV-Prevention/Vaginal-fluid-on-hand-touched-inside-of-condom-and-head-of-penis/show/1119533

As we discussed, you were at little if any risk for STD from the exposure you described and your symptoms, including the new ones describe here, still don't suggest STD.  No STD causes migratory pains of that sort.  Follow through with plans to see your primary care provider.  It would not be unreasonable to mention the exposure, but you can expect the doc to agree with me that it's not an issue and cannot possibly be the cause of your symptoms.

That will be all for this thread.  Take care.

Dear Doctor,

I posted a question earlier to you but it seems to not have gone through.

First off,  I thank you for all your help and insight.   It has helped me immensely.  This should be the last I bother you.

My spot on my glans seems to have gone away with two days of aloe lotion.  However,  as it was subsiding, I started to get a pain in my abdomen area / testicle.  This pain seems to be migrating as well from left to right then up to abdomen.  I am receiving this pain almost 20 weeks after potential exposure.

I have made an appointment with a primary care provider and will be seeing them soon.
I've read that chlamydia cannot be passed through oral sex but perhaps gonorrhea.
Am curious if this interaction should be mentioned at my visit.  Does this new pain fall in line with any bacterial std's that I should be aware of?

Again,  thank you for your help.

Dear Doctor,

My spot seems to not go away fully.  It went away for two weeks and now has recurred.  I started to reapply the hydrocort.. but have not seen much change (2 days worth of application) .  After swimming in a pool the other day it became a little more noticeable.  It is not raised, not painful, does not itch, does not ooze.  It is not even noticeable with an erection.  Almost like a very small amount of skin engorged.  Also becomes more visible after masturbation.  The size of the rash is 2mm x 2mm or so.  Do these sound like symptoms of any other std's?  I have seen other members post a similar item in dermatology forums but I did not see any responses.  Again,  the spot is on the ridge of my glans and does not seem to be changing shape.  Any insight would be welcomed,

Dear Doctor HHH,

Thank you for the quick response.  Your logic about coincidence of symptoms seems, well, logical.  However, isn't itchy anus a herpes symptom?

Thanks for your answer and thanks Medhelp for the forums-
