Herpes 2 Transmission

I went to a amateur baseball tournament a week and used the same bar of soap and the same towel as someone who has genital herpes. I was under the assumption that a person cannot get herpes simplex 2 unless you are engaged in sexual activities but a buddy of mine disagrees. I'm extremely worried! What is the truth? Thanks.

Your buddy is wrong.  Herpes is transmitted by person to person contact, not indirectly and absolutely not by a bar of soap. The soap would have inactivated any virus that it came in contact with.  You have nothing to worry about. EWH

So neither soap nor a towel can transmit HSV 2?
