Unsure What I May Have?

FACTS: Single incident unprotected sex (Nov. 16) and deep kissing with saliva exchange.

SYMPTOMS: BIGGEST CONCERN - Past 8+ Weeks (since week 2) had these symptoms: very red throat in front of tonsils with a couple of white dots. Throat DOES NOT really hurt (very little). No open sores. Right tonsil swollen to size of grape.  Back of throat little red.  Some swollen lymph nodes in neck area (under jaw & 1 between neck and shoulder).  Neck is a little sore under jaw.  Coughing up clear/white phlegm.

Had frequent urination for a week after exposure, but went away after about a week.  After week 2 had single smallish purple/red pimple on shaft that went away after a couple of days.  No leakage or sores.  Recently developed a bump on eyeball that went away after 3 days (felt through eyelid).

TREATMENT: Antibiotic shot day after followed by 10 day oral.  At 6 weeks, 10 day Augmentin (son had strep - my test came back (-), but Dr. thought it might be that).  At week 9, 5 days Zythro.  Also gave me nasal spray and antihistamine to stop nasal drip.

TESTS: Negative HIV test at 10 weeks (Home Access) (therefore, not major HIV concern).  Had a blood test at 3.5 weeks (2 weeks after stopped first round antibiotics).  RPR was non-reactive; Chalmydia, IGG, IGM & IGA were negative.

QUESTIONS:
Viruses don't ordinarily last 8 weeks.  Does this sound like an STD?
Did I take the right tests?
What additional tests should I take and when?
If I see another Dr., should I see an ENT or infectious disease Dr.?
Any other advice?

Your symptoms don't suggest STD.  No STD causes the respiratory/throat symptoms you describe, and the genital area symptoms don't sound like STD either. Some respiratory virus infections clearly can last 8 weeks; or conceivably you have been experiencing infectious mononucleosis (which usually is an STD, not just a 'kissing disease') or other mono-like infection.  I'm not certain you further health care at all; your symptoms likely will simply fade with time; none of the likely possibilities involves anything dangerous in the long run.  But if your symptoms continue, or if you remain concerned, an ID specialist makes more sense than an otolaryngologist.

Good luck--  HHH, MD

Thanks for your response.  I thought it might be mono or some similar disease as well; however, I did not have a fever and I'm not experiencing any fatigue.

Since other than some minor neck soreness, it's not really bothering me (just makes me nervous).  I'll wait it out a bit more and see what happens.

Thanks for the advice.
