Massage and Saliva

Hi Dr-
Married man and father of two so naturally I’m dealing with a bit of anxiety regarding my lack of good judgment.  I’m pretty sure I know the answer but I won’t feel better until I present my own situation. I went for a “full body massage” and during the massage I was naked lying on my stomach while she was laying on me rubbing against my body, kissing my neck and sucking on my ears. At the end on the massage she used lotion to masturbate me but right before I finished she spit directly on my penis and continued to masturbate me with her saliva. So my question is, am I at risk for an STD (Herpes, HIV, etc.)?  She was wearing braces so she could have had a small cut from the braces which could possibly have a small trace of blood. I was unaware she was going to use saliva so after the incident I questioned her about STD’s and testing but of course she said she was clean and rightfully so that didn’t comfort me. I have also noticed a small pimple underneath the foreskin on my penis 2 days after the incident. The anxiety is killing me!

1) Would the rubbing of her body against mine be of any concern for Herpes?
2) Does the large amount of saliva directly on my penis put me at any risk?
3) What if the saliva had small traces of blood from a cut related to the braces?

I realize that my anxiety has taken over and I apologize for wasting your time. Somehow I keep thinking the blood was visible and that I wiped it away. I'm going to take comfort that the blood required to be of any concern couldnt be missed by the actions I'm parnoid over.

Again Thanks

If you keep adding anxiety driven comments that ignore my previous replies -- like the two that have been deleted -- the entire thread will be deleted.  You are abusing your MedHelp privileges and are in danger of having them terminated.

"Are you saying that the blood would need to be really really obvious to be of concern?"

*Sigh*  How else could you possibly interpret "If there was no obvious blood exposure -- i.e., no visible blood on her hands or your genitals -- you can be entirely sure there was no risk"???

"Should I just accept the fact that I'm safe to continue my life and not worry about infecting my wife and kids?"

That was the whole point of everything I said above.

Should I just accept the fact that I'm safe to continue my life and not worry about infecting my wife and kids? I will not follow up with any more questions. Thanks for the help to ease my guilt.

Just need clarification ! I'm confused because what if I didn't notice the blood because I cleaned up right away with a towel. Are you saying that the blood would need to be really really obvious to be of concern? The blood would have been mixed with saliva so why would the amount of blood be of concern if the virus in deactivated by the saliva? Thanks ,

I already answered both these questions.  Re-read my reply above.  I haven't changed my mind!

One last thing, the penile pimple is only about the size of pen point. You made it sound like you think it's genital herpes or are you just saying that if it was herpes that it would have to be from a different exposure. Am I safe to assume that my recent massage was safe and that this incident didn't expose me to HIV or Stds?

Would the blood trace need to be obvious? If it's mixed with saliva how would it be visible? Are you simply saying that it would need to enough blood that it would be visibly obvious? Your comments have me a little alarmed! Thanks

Welcome to the forum.   Thanks for your question.

It seems you already know that hand-body or hand-genital contact, or exposure to saliva, carry no significant risks for STD.  STDs are rarely carried in saliva, and some or most of the causative bacteria and viruses are killed by saliva, which has antiseptic properties.  There's nothing about the details of your exposure that would be expected to change this.

A single "small pimple" of the penis is an unlikely sign of any new STD.  However, it might be consistent with recurrent herpes.  In other words, if it is anything related to any STD, it would suggest you could have a longstanding genital HSV infection with a new recurrent outbreak (even if you never noticed prior outbreaks).  In any case, this almost certainly has nothing to do with the massage event a couple days earlier.

To your specific questions:

1,2) No risk from these specific events.

3) Few STDs are carried in the blood; and even the blood-borne viruses like hepatitis B or HIV are not transmitted by contact with intact skin or the external genitals.  Further, as noted above, saliva be expected to inactivate any infections.  If there was no obvious blood exposure -- i.e., no visible blood on her hands or your genitals -- you can be entirely sure there was no risk.

If you'd like to tell me more about your penile "pimple", perhaps I'll have more to say about it.  But I'm not at all concerned about any STD risk from the massage event.

Best wishes--  HHH, MD
