I cannot make a diagnosis over the internet. What I can tell you however is that what you describe in no way suggests HSV at all. It so not something to worry about and may have been there for some time but was just noticed. EWH
1. No, there is no change in risk related to when you washed following exposure. This is true for your hands as well as your genitals.
2. No, the time pattern does not suggest STD, nor does the fact that it occurs without other abnormalities (lesions/discharge)
3. I presume you mean get tested for HSV since you've already been tested for gonorrhea and chlamydial infection. We do not recommend testing for persons in your situation- your risk for a false positive result is higher than the risk that you have herpes following a single episode of sex. If you insist, please do not get an IgM test for herpes, they are worthless and wait until at least 8 and better yeat 12 weeks following exposure. EWH
You should believe your tests. Men do have small aounts of normal genital secretions from time time to which typically go unnoticed unless they are worried for some reason. If you have not been re-exposed since your last exposure and testing, there is nothing to worry about. This will end this thread. Take care and please try to stop worrying. eWH
Hello again,
I just have one more question that has just come up (after I thought I was over this whole thing)
I had some clear discharge (I guess) from my penis last night before I went to bed. I'd been out and had been dancing, etc., but I've never had an issue like this before and it's really terrifying to me. Since then I've had a little bit of pain in my penis, but not terribly bad nor really worse when urinating. Is one episode of discharge worth worrying about? Also, what could cause discharge for the first time 6 weeks post-exposure? Thanks!!!
I just got my results back and they said I was completely normal. I know I'm finally ready to put this whole thing behind me. Thanks for your patience and expertise. Y'all do a great job of calming people down/ telling them the facts that they can't get elsewhere reliably.
Thanks again doctor!!!
My sense is that my answering these questions is just fueling your anxiety,. This will be the last answer as part of this thread. No, HSV from oral sex would not be expected to cause anal problems. Take care. EWH
Hello Doc.
I'm sorry to post again but I just need a LITTLE more help to get through my anxiety or condition, whatever it is.
I ended up getting tested at 5 weeks ( even though my risk was low, I just needed some assurance) and those results haven't come back yet. I was tested at a hospital clinic and they said they'd test for "everything I'd want" but I'm not sure what kind of tests exactly that means.
Anyway, I've been having some pain in my anus for about the last 24 + hours. I guess it might be a little red but there aren't any blisters or anything like that. Is this a cause for concern about a recurrent outbreak, even though I never had a first outbreak? Can herpes from oral sex cause problems in the anus?
Once again, I'm sorry but I know I'm almost over this. Thanks and God Bless!!!
1. No
2. The majority. It is not likely you will have a subsequent outbreak.
3. Give it up. I repeat, there really is no reason for you to be worrying abvout HSV
EWH
Hey Dr., I really appreciate everything you've done and you've truly made me feel better about this. Although I feel relatively safe 31 days in, I do believe I'm going to get tested at the earliest I can just to make sure.
If you don't mind, though, I just have a few more questions to tide me through until then:
1) Does it matter that there was a prolonged exposure (I was quite drunk and it made it take longer)?
2) What percent of people infected with HSV 2 have an initial outbreak (believe me I would have noticed it if it was there) where they actually get the blisters, etc.? And since I didn't have an initial outbreak, what are the chances that I would get one now?
3) Having not had an initial outbreak, what are the realistic chances that I could have HSV 2? Keeping in mind I had 1 oral/ fingering encounter with a slightly (not terribly) promiscuous upper-middle class girl at a private university.
I promise to you to be done with this thread after this question, and I truly, sincerely thank you for your service. God Bless.
I just noticed something that I'm additionally, really worried about. I apologize for taking up your time but I sincerely appreciate it and it would mean a lot if you could give me an actual diagnosis regardless of my stress level.
I have a large (close to quarter size) white mark on the top of my butt. This is about where my tan line is so it's almost on my lower back and it's slightly raised. It's very noticeable and completely white colored but not really painful. Is there a chance this would be a herpes blister in it's initial stages???
Thank you doctor for the reassurance.
I did have a couple follow-up questions, though.
1) Does it matter that I fell asleep shortly after this contact and didn't have a chance to shower/ clean up? This includes my hands/ genitals, etc.
2) I've also had some pain/ sensitivity on the head of my penis. This has been fairly bothersome to me and isn't all the time, but has kind of come and gone over the last 2 weeks. Its not really a burning, so much as just a discomfort. Could this be anything to worry about?
3) If I was to get tested (I'm the kind of person who really likes to know for sure) how long do I have to wait/ what is my best option?
Welcome to the Forum. Since you have reviewed our site, I suspect you know the answers I am about to give you. There is no risk of STD from masturbation (fingering). As for oral sex, oral sex is an inefficient way to transmit STDs. Of the bacterial STDs only gonorrhea and nongonococcal urethritis (NGU) are transmitted through oral sex; chlamydia is not and without an obvious sore or lesion on your partner’s mouth, the chances of syphilis and herpes is likewise tiny. If you had gotten gonorrhea or NGU you would have most likely developed symptoms of urethritis (penile infection). Even if your partner had an STD (any STD and it is likely she did not), most exposures do not lead to infection. Thus the specific answers to your questions are:
1. See above, very, very low. If you were going to develop HSV, you would have had lesions by now.
2. You have been examined and tested (twice), this is not an STD. Possibly guilt/anxiety.
3. NO, even with warts on your finger, you are not susceptible to STD from masturbation of her. Similarly, there is no risk from you touching your penis after touching her.
4. No
Hope this helps. You have nothing to worry about and should move on from here. Take care. EWH
