I can't answer this any differently than I did above.
That's all for this thread. Move on.
Thanks. I know this is splitting hairs, but does the fact that a one-night stand is a bar pickup or not make any difference?
Welcome to the forum. I'll go straight to your question.
1) These are not scientific terms. To most people, "one night stand" implies having sex with someone within a few hours of meeting, with no intent or expectation to date that person on a regular basis. Most bar pickups obviously would fall in this category.
2) There has never been a "discovery" about this. My comments in the other thread are just common sense, based on my 40 years of experience evaluating and treating people with (or at risk for) STDs. That discussion includes comments about the reasons.
But all this is splitting hairs. Sex with either a commercial sex worker or bar pickups, and many if not most "one night stands", are very high risk for HIV and other STDs, especially if condoms aren't used for vaginal or anal sex. Whether one type, or any particular partner, is slightly higher or lower risk is irrelevant. All people who participate in these activities are at high risk and should be tested periodically for HIV and other STDs.
