STD Question-Pl. refer to my earlier post on HIV prevention Board

Dear Doc,
I am still dealing with Parotid gland swelling ( Severe pain in the ear, although the swelling that comes up is very little). Also, during the night it doesnt pain but as the day passes by, there is pain along with very little swelling just below the ear. In addition, the pain at times alternates between left parotid and right parotid gland. I recently got Syhpillis,HIV tests done.

HIV 1&2 serum+P24 combo test (0.09)-non reactive ( You were right doc, Very thankful to you)
HSV 1+2 IgG Serum 0.05 (non reactive)
HSV 1+ Igm,Serum 0.51 (non-reactive)
Syphillis (TPHA (Agglutination)-Positive,FTA-ABS-Negative,VDRL(RPR) Serum-Non Reactive)
Chlamydia-Awaited

Can you pl. comment on the Test results?

Blood tests of this sort have no role in the diagnosis of STDs.

Chlamydia trachomatis blood tests could detect past or present infections if the tests were reliable but the are not.  The C. trachomatis blood tests have both frequent false negative and false positive results.

C. pneumoniae is not an STD- it causes pnuemonia and sore throats.  Blood tests for this organism are a research tool, not a diagnostic test.

It is now time for this thread to end.  EWH

organism refers to a living organism, whter a bacteria, virus or otherwise.

I doubt that the black spots are in any way related to your parotid swelling.

I'm sorry I really do not have much more to add. Sometimes things of this sort must just be observed over time in order to discover their cause. EWH

In addition, Doc..I met a urologist as well to show two small black round spots on my penis. It doesnt pain/irritate at all infact I dont even know where it came from as its been with me for the last 3-4 years. The doc called them beauty spots and asked me not to worry. Also, saw one single little Papules on the shaft(no pain/no irritation) Is it co-related to issues I currently have?

Chlamydial test is a blood test. I dont understand the term organism (DNA or culture test).

Doc,
I have been a fool by not trusting your knowledge on this subject. I've spent around $200 on tests and ENT consultations by now. Trust me, not a single doc could tell me whats wrong with my glands. (pain in ear, slight swelling in parotid, right/left side of the tongue hurts) and so on. I've had a lot of anti-biotics advised by dental surgeons and ENT specialists but it has not helped. ESR is still@26-30.

Ear-Normal (Checked by doc)
Nose-Normal
Lymph node-Normal, Swelling in the gland
Teeth-Normal

I dont know what to do and so I thought of you for help and suggestion.

I'm sorry that you remain fixated on the relationship between your low risk sexual exposure and the parotid gland difficulties that coincidentally occurred at about the same time.  This sort of fixation is not only a waste of your time and money but can also delay your finding out what is really happening. You need to put your STD fears aside, find an ENT whom you feel good about working with, and address this problem.  Going form Dr. To Dr. or repeatedly testing for STDs you have already proven you do not have makes no sense.

Your recent HAIV, syphilis, and herpes blood test confirm what I have already said,- this is not an STD. All of these tests are completely negative.  I hope the chlamydial test you are waiting for is not a blood test- if so, no matter what the results, they are meaningless since the currently available blood tests for chlamydia are both non-specific and insensitive.  If you had a test for the organism itself (culture or DNA test) I am confident it will be negative.

Also, I dont understand what kind of community acquired viral is this if not an STD! As I have taken all the anti-biotics in the world, have shown myself to top ENT surgeons in the country and all the suggest is that I take multi vitamin tablets for 1-2 months and return for check up. Doc, Trust me, My glands below  the ear are sometimes tender or painful. I just hope its not cancer or anything serious. There is some kind of infection in my body which is still a mystery.
