Fear of STD

Hi, I was in Macau last week and I visited a sauna with a bunch of my friends when I was drunk. I ended up receiving unprotected oral sex from a commercial sex worker there and nothing more. The way she performed it was that she would gargle first with Listerine and then proceed with the deed. Now I have a few questions...

1. What is my risk in contracting HIV? Should I get tested?

2. Out of fear of other STD's I downed 2g of Azithromycin in one sitting since I read it can cure Gonorrhea, Chlamydia, and Syphillis. Did that clear me of the three?

3. I dont know if I'm imagining it but I have a dull pain in my testicle 6 days from contact and 3 days from drinking the antibiotics. Is that an STD?

Final answer.

1) Is 6 weeks too late for ARS?
It is a bit late, on average but some cases of ARS do occur this late.

2) Do these symptoms sound like ARS?
Fever is typically part of the ARS, as are muscle aches.  This is unlikely to be the ARS.

3) Should I get tested?
This is a personal decision.  As I said, there is no medical reason for testing but if you need to prove to yourself that you are not infected, do so.

This will end this thread.  EWH

Hi Doc,

Sorry to be back, but within the 6th week after exposure I got flu-like symptoms of congestion, sore throat, feeling feverish without fever, and light cough. I've had the sore throat for 5 days now. My questions are:

1) Is 6 weeks too late for ARS?
2) Do these symptoms sound like ARS?
3) Should I get tested?

Thanks Doc, any help will do.

No change in my assessment or advice.  The mouth ulcer and stomach discomfort you are experiencing are coincidental and not related to the exposure you have described.  EWH

Hi doc, this is the ultimate last question. Ive been having stomach pains that are on and off with lower back pain. Also, I am scared because I just discovered a mouth ulcer under my upper lip beside my gums. Im now wondering if this is ARS and HIV. Also, is the light stomach pains and lower back pain suggestive of another STD that couldnt be cleared by the Azithromycin?

This is a repetitive question.  Please re-read the comment above.  you are not at risk for HIV form this exposure.  EWH

Hi Doc, its been a week since I received unprotected oral sex from a CSW in Macau. Ive been having occasional light stomach oains and some phantom pains in my groin, armpit, and neck lymph node area. I say its phantom because its not really painful more of discomfort. Anyway, do I need to get testing for HIV? I'm really very anxious about this and I keep thinking that I might have gotten it? Is there any risk to what I did or am I just being paranoid? Id really appreciate your reassuring help....

Welcome back to the Forum.  Receipt of oral sex form a commercial sex worker is low risk for any STI and there are no cases in which anyone has ever been proven to have acquired HIV from receipt of oral sex.  Further, while we do not recommend the practice, that you took 2 grams of azithromycin has virtually eliminated any risk you might have for development of gonorrhea, NGU, chlamydia, or syphilis.  At this time there is no need for testing for any STI or for HIV.

1. What is my risk in contracting HIV? Should I get tested?

See above, there was no risk for HIV related to this exposure and no need for testing.

2. Out of fear of other STD's I downed 2g of Azithromycin in one sitting since I read it can cure Gonorrhea, Chlamydia, and Syphillis. Did that clear me of the three?

If you had them, which is quite unlikely, this therapy would have cured/prevented any infection.

3. I dont know if I'm imagining it but I have a dull pain in my testicle 6 days from contact and 3 days from drinking the antibiotics. Is that an STD?

No, the pain you describe is not suggestive of an STI, particularly after taking the antibiotics you took.

I hope these comments are helpful to you.  EWH

The pain is actually not specific, it might be in the groin area pr in the testicular area. Anyhow it got me scared that I read one post that this is how gonorrhea started for him.

Also, will me being infected with Gonorrhea makes my risk higher for HIV with that CSW?
