Probably just an irrational person

Dear doc,
I am a 39 yr old male. 13 yrs ago I received oral from a high risk individual. I assumed this was zero risk for std and never thought of again until recently when I learned it wasn't zero. I am married now and wife has given birth to 2 children since. Am I correct in assuming she was tested for everything when we learned she was preg and thus I too am std free?
I also received oral 3 yrs ago from another person. Did not ejaculate. Was very brief. Guilt was killing me so went to doc about a week after exposure. Tested urine for gon and chlm. Both negative. He did phy exam said he saw nothing and recommended no further tests. I have read many of ur posts and it seems the only concern would be syphilis and I realize that is very small chance.  My wife went to gyno about 6 months ago. Did pap and blood work since she had not been in a while. All checked out fine. Neither of us have ever had any symptoms.  Do u agree there is nothing to worry about at this point? Would my wife's recent blood work and exam have shown any problems if they did exist?
Thank u for ur help.

Thank you again. I think I have a bad case of genitally focused anxiety from reading your other threads. Even knowing this I don't seem to be able to convince myself.

BTW your work here is unbelievable. And cheap! I would gladly have paid much more

No.  It would have been clincially apparent or picked up in the course of testing at routine visits or in the course of donating blood.  If the doctors test in the way they are recommended to, they would detect nearly all infections at the time of yearly exams.  EWH

Thank you for the prompt response. This will be my final questions. Have you ever seen a case where partners were infected with syphilis for many years and both were unaware? Do most yearly exams for women catch problems if blood work is done as well?

Welcome to the Forum. The short answer is that you are in the clear and have nothing to worry about.  Few STIs are transmitted by receipt of oral sex and if you had acquired one from your exposure, it would have most likely been clinically manifest.

In terms of your wife, testing for HIV, syphilis and other STIs is recommended as a routine part of prenatal care so she should have been tested while she was pregnant.

At this time I really see no reason for concern or to pursue additional testing. EWH
