Not Sure?

Back on October 11th I received unprotected oral sex from a woman I work with at trade shows from time to time. It lasted for about 2 minutes. About 5 days later I started to feel a twinge in my penis tip when I urinated and felt the need to urinate more frequently. I did not have any type of discharge just a stranger then normal sensation. I did have the feeling after urinating of wetness in my urethra or extra urine still present?

At the end of that week I had been given two different prescriptions from two different doctors. One was Avelox for an upper respiratory sinus infection 400mg for 10 days. The other one was Clindamycin for an infection from a root canal 750mg a day for 7 days.

My main question is if I had contracted some type of STI from that oral episode would it be cured or affected by the medicine I was taking? The symptoms of urethral discomfort and urge went away initially after taking the prescriptions. I have since noticed the symptoms again and urethral discomfort slightly, but I also have not been able to steer my thinking from concentrating on these symptoms. If that makes any sense?  I check to see if there is discharge every time I urinate and I milk the urethral tube just to make sure no discharge is present. Do you think that I am causing anxiety induce symptoms or could it be some sort of infection lingering in my system? I do have extreme guilt about the oral sex situation (just an FYI).

I know you can not give a conclusive answer to my questions since this is an online forum. But if there is any perspective you can lend it would be greatly appreciated.

This is an excellent forum and I have read it from time to time for over two years.

Thanks for your reply. It has helped to ease my tension over the situation and the symptoms seem to have mostly subsided.

You can relax.  Avelox is a quinolone antibiotic and is effective against many bacteria including the common causes of urethritis (penile infections).  Clindamycin is effective against many bacteria that Avelox would not have covered.  Had you asked this question before you took antibiotics I would have suggested that since receiving oral sex is very low risk for STD acquisition, you would not need to worry or be tested.  Now that you have taken these antibiotics you can be virtually sure that you do not have an STD.  My guess is that your anxiety is causing you to focus on genital sensations in such a way that you are noticing sensations that have always been there but were not noteworthy until you began to worry.  Now is the time to stop worrying.  You do not have an STD acquired from receipt of oral sex on October 11.

Hope this helps.  EWH
