Heterosexual syphilis is rare and when present is not commonly transmitted by oral sex. It's a theoretical risk but little real risk.
You do not mention the possibiliy that he acquired syphilis?
"Could" you have caught herpes? Sure. But as we already said, the chance is almost zero. A single blister on the lip is not a likely first symptom of herpes; initial oral herpes usually causes multiple painful sores inside the mouth. But if you remain concerned, see a health care provider about it.
i recently have had a blister or 2 on my lip about 5 days after this encounter.. i know you said that is rare but could i have caught herpes from her? My seasonal allergies are really bad right now. could i be reacting from my allergies? what other sign of herpes might i have?
thanks- have a great night!
I don't care whether or not it happens again. This forum doesn't moralize or pass judgment; your motivations and intent are irrelevant to my advice. Let's have no more of that sort of comment.
Open lesions make the risk higher, but still low. But "open lesions" are painful, and few people have sex when sores are present (even sex workers). Don't worry about it.
thanks for your "assurance" on the low risk of contracting an std due to my irresponsible practice. i can confidently say it will NEVER happen again! if the person had open lesions, which i don't think she had is the risk greater?
Welcome to the forum. The bottom line is that the risk of any STD from a single episode of oral sex is very low. Use the search link and try searching for "oral sex", "cunnilingus", and "fellatio" to see many threads with detailed discussions.
I assume you mean you performed oral sex on the sex worker. That's very low risk. It is rare to acquire any STD that way. The risk isn't zero, so to be 100% sure see a health care provider -- you can be tested for gonorrhea of the throat, for example. Oral herpes from cunnilingus is so rare I have never seen or even heard of a case in my 30+ years in the STD business.
If I were in your situation, knowing what I know, I would just go on with my life and not get tested at all. But see a health care provider if you remain concerned.
