fingering a woman and herpes

i recently fingered a woman who says she does not have any stds.....after fingering her i had her vagainal fluids on my fingers....i touched my face not right after but soon after before i was able to wash my hands...i may have bit my nail too but i cant remember..my question is it possible or likely to get herpes from touching other parts of my body with her vaginal fluids on my fingers?

thanks for your help!

Because many don't really know the facts.  Don't believe everything you read on the web; anybody can post anytyhing.  Be selective in the sites you read.

Hypotheticallly yes, there is a risk. But in 30+ years in the STD business, I have never seen or even heard of a case.  You're not going to be the first one.  Just drop it. I won't have any further comments.

They call them sexually transmitted because you have to have sex to transmit them (duh); and fingering doesn't count.  No STDs are transmitted by fingering or any other hand-to-genital contact, regardless of nail biting or cuts on the fingers.  There might be some theoretical risk of herpes, but it almost never happens; in 30+ years working in a busy STD clinic, I have never see such a case.  You are not at risk.

Good luck--  HHH, MD
