hi doc i have a problem im 28 year male. about 3 monts ago i had unprotected oral sex with a transgender male giving and recieving for a few minutes and there was no penatrative sex. a few days later my buttocks felt like they were on fire and turned red but went away in one day but comes back every few days but not red also have tingle in scrotum everyday almost for the last few months. there is an intermittent stinging sensation in my penis as well and groin pain. some days i get swollen throat armpit swelling and leg burning. I was diagnoised with ebv last year and my doctors told me it can last up to 2 years.

ihad 5 hsv2 test igg the second one was posotive 2.5 hsv2 and idid 3 more test after that all negative for hsv1 and 2. all docs thoght it was a false posotive witch it  was. i took a herpes select test at 11weeks and 3 days after possible exposure very low negative think it .31 hsv2 .9) being posotive is herpes select reliable after 11 weeks? ive been to 2 id speacialist and 2 md doctors and they say not herpes. i always read of people having pins and needles and tingling in the  extremeties with  mono.

its been a rough 10 months with ebv and docs saitd because im almost 30  after 25 its horrible like adult chicken . what do you think doc my anxiety driving me crazy i never had hsv2 sores just  symptoms.

Nobody said you were crazy.

I saw the timing of your tests when I replied above.  11 weeks is fine in this situation.  You didn't need testing for HSV-2 anyway, because it's not a possibility after an oral sex exposure.  You don't have it.

That's the end of this thread.

i came to this forum because my doctors never mentioned
how long you had to wait to take the hsv2 test and to ask if the herpes select test was reliable at 11 weeks and 3 days

Let me get this straight. You have been to 4 doctors, including 2 infectious diseases specialists, who all agree that you do not have genital herpes and have said, on the basis of multiple blood tests, that you do not have HSV-2 (despite one results that was false positive).  And now you come to a distant online source and expect to hear something different?  Sorry to disappoint you, but I agree exactly with what you have been told by all 4 doctors.  Your symptoms do not suggest herpes anyway; genital herpes simply does not cause the combination of types of symptoms you describe.

As for Epstein Barr virus (EBV), you describe nothing that hints at infectious mononucleosis or anything else caused by EBV. Where does that idea come from?

From both this thread and your previous one on the HIV prevention forum (and apparently a duplicate HIV forum question that was deleted), as well as your own statement about "anxiety driving me crazy", it is obvious that your main problem is psychological.  This is probably the main basis of all your symptoms.  Please discuss that aspect forthrightly with your primary care provider, and be prepared to accept his or her advice when s/he suggests referral for professional counseling about it.  I suggest it out of compassion, not criticism.

In your own interest, i.e. to avoid reinforcing your anxieties, I will not respond to any follow-up "yes but" or "what if" questions, and any new questions on this forum or the HIV prevention forum about this exposure or these symptoms will be deleted without reply.

Good luck--  HHH, MD
