Hillsong---lead me to the cross Question: what does this mean to you?

Saviour, I come
Quiet my soul
Remember
Redemptions hill
Where your blood was spilled
For my ransom

Everything I once held dear
I count it all as lost

Lead me to the cross
Where your love poured out
Bring me to my knees
Lord, I lay me down
Rid me of myself, I belong to you
and lead me
lead me to the cross

You were as I
Tempted and trialed
Human
The word became flesh
Bore my sin and death
Now your risen

And everything I once held dear
I count it all as lost

Lead me to the cross
Where your love poured out
Bring me to my knees
Lord, I lay me down
Rid me of myself, I belong to you
and lead me
lead me to the cross

To your heart
To your heart
Lead me to your heart
Lead me to your heart

Lead me to the cross
Where your love poured out
Bring me to my knees
Lord, I lay me down
Rid me of myself, I belong to you
and lead me
lead me to the cross 2x

That's a great post.  I like it.  It is nice and simple.  Very easy for a thick headed guy like me to remember.  "Rid me of myself, I belong to you" is an amazing line to me.  It really hit home.  I lived a very selfish life until I got pretty beat up.  A friend of mine gave me a prayer in which releases all control from me and gives it to God.  After that I was blessed to be able to follow a way that God would have me be instead of focusing on my own selfish desires.  Learning to let go of my self has been a truly amazing blessing.

"Saviour, I come

Also wanted to add why I believe that this person that wrote this is coming to God and asking Him to "quiet his soul," - that to me means he recognizes that in God's presence, when you come to Him, meaning the time you spend in prayer and reading the Word ( in His presence that is) - this fellow is asking "quiet my soul" - in other words give me rest, peace, from all that is going on around me .

And then as the person brings to His memory what Jesus did - spilled His blood for Him, he is reminding himself that he can find peace and quiet  because Jesus did not die in vain, but for us, to redeem us and to give us peace for he is the Prince of Peace as the bible says.

Why is this fellow reminding himself who Jesus is? I believe he is doing this because it is so easy to let anxiety take over as we go thru life and come up against things that are very difficult.
I panic too at times, but then as my mind is racing I have to stop myself and remind myself that Jesus said He will never leave me nor forsake me.
He is always with us and that doesn't mean we won't have trouble, but we must continually remind ourselves that we will come thru it eventually. At times this can be hard if things don't look hopeful, but we have to keep reminding ourself everything will be alright even when it doesn't appear that way.

This also reminds me of how the disciples needed their "soul quieted" when they were in the boat with Jesus and a terrible storm hit. These men were professional fishermen yet they were frightened to death on the sea, so you can only imagine how bad the storm must have been to frighten them when they ran down to wake Jesus, Jesus asked them where is their faith. The storm didn't frighten Jesus one bit.

Our storms of life are like that, whether our storm is sickness or something else - sometimes it feels like Jesus is not there, but He is - just like He was then, with the disciples, but He was at rest in the midst of the storm - but they thought He did care I guess because He was sleeping, but of course He did care and Jesus wondered where was their Faith when they appeared so frightened.

Gods Word is meant to encourage us and to build our Faith so that during our storms of life, we can know He is there with us, even if we don't feel Him, He IS there, but He is not stressing like we are and He doesn't want us to stress either.
But in times we do stress we must ask the same as this song writer asked, "Quiet my Soul."

It is a good reminder that we are not our own. We have been redeemed, bought with a price - Jesus's life. The song says rid me of myself, I belong to you. By that God means kill our flesh, so that we put Him first in our life. God can only use dead people - dead to self and that is hard. When we can all turn the other cheek when we are despised and rejected of men, well that is one test to pass to know we are dead to self. And that is when God can trust a person and use them mightily for His glory....
