What's a Monster (PG-13)

PG-13

What’s a Monster?
By. Cloud Windgate Studio’s

A father laid his daughter to rest in the usual fashion. First he would tell her to go and get ready which partook in her brushing her hair, teeth, and changing into her night gown. While she did this the father would remake the child’s bed look at the books on the shelf and pick one that suited the day and her young growing mind. The books on the shelf was a tradition of the fathers family the child would find books they liked and put it on the shelf but they were not allowed to read them they had to wait for there parents to read them. Next the little girl would peek into the room and see if her father had picked a book. It was a special treat for him to read a book to her. He was always real busy at night. When he finely picked one he would sit down and that was her queue to run in and jump into her bed. She did this because it made her father laugh and she liked it when he smiled.

Tonight was just like the other except today’s book was called the beast within. The book was beyond her years of understanding but she insisted.  So the father read the book to his daughter and by the end the daughter looked up and ask “daddy what’s a monster?” The father took a second to think about how he should describe it.

“Well” said the father
“They’re things with big fangs and furry coats. They have eyes of red and great claws too!”
“No they don’t” she replied
“O yes and they eat people ten at a time” he continued
“Do they eat girls?” she asked
“Only the bad ones that don’t go to sleep when there meant to”
“o no!” the father said “I think I’m becoming a monster you’ve been up to long” he said with a glare in his eyes as he pretended to lose his will.
She gave out a little scream as he jumped at her and began to tickle her
She laughed he laughed then he gave her a kiss and tucked her in for the night.
“there aren’t really monster are there” she asked before he left the room
“no honey and if there were I would protect you no matter what” the father replied as he left

He sat in his arm chair and the smile faded from his face. Remembering the words he had said. He had lied to his daughter there are monsters but they don’t have claws or fangs. Nor do they have eyes of red. He knew what a real monster looked like and he knew that they wore the skin of a human and there eyes where the same shade too. They did normal things so they seemed like you and me. But they were not they were monsters and they did eat little girls and even grown man. This pain the father more then anything else to know that he could not always protect her, and one day she too would learn that the monsters looked just like us.

Writers note

Had to take a break and this idea was kinda in my head. This version is a little lighter then the orginal idea. In the orginal idea the father was a monster and he was keeping people in his basmnet and that was what he was busy with at night. I was going to do this idea for the fact to really empatizes that anyone can be a monster no matter how good they seem. But in light of it all i choose this ending because i thought it showed it rather well and im trying to go on a lighter side more so i hope you enjoy
