Freeze Frame
Grandma! Grandma! Come! I looked down and there was my grandson’s little hand reaching up for mine. He quickly grabbed hold of my hand and took me in tow, toward the calm, sun-blinding water. As I looked up, I could see several parked cars we needed to weave through to get to our destination. I can feel the hot sun beaming on my arms; threatening another scorching day.
About 200 feet below us; the calm, deep blue water was shimmering from the clear bright sky. We began walking through the maze of cars towards the shore. Dominick was laughing and tugging on my arm with all of his might. “Come on grandma! Come on!” he said. I couldn’t help but giggle at his excitement. Dominick has no fear of water or conception of water depth. He doesn’t care if he can swim or not. If the water gets over his head; he knows that someone will be there to pluck him out of the depths. The lake is just one enormous blue tub that belongs to him.
As Dominick was towing me through the cars; I heard a familiar voice coming somewhere from the left of us. “Hey, Therese! Good to see you!” said the voice. Suddenly appeared this beautiful slender woman; with long black hair, dressed in a short jean skirt, snug black blouse, brown cowboy hat and boots. I quickly looked down at Dominick because he had let go of my hand; only to see him frozen in time. He was staring at Lisa. I could see his wheels turning. His little body wasn’t moving, but those eyes were fixed on her. The little man clearly couldn’t move. Suddenly that innocent little two year old boy with bulging brown eyes; started doing football poses. Up goes the right arm, down with the left knee. Each pose was meticulous and held for several seconds. Quick…someone get a camera! I thought. But something kept me also frozen in time. I didn’t want to miss a second of this spectacular moment. It was as if this little child was competing at a Muscle and Fitness National. When
Dominick ended his routine; he finished it off with a conversation to Lisa that only he could understand. Then he took my hand and we continued on our journey to the lake shore.
