Can a 25 year old have a chronic lacunar infraction?

I have had mild-severe headaches since 2010 and doctors have not been able to find the cause. Last month, I was asked to do an MRI and was diagnosed with chronic lacunar infracts. You cannot imagine my shock, I mean does this happen to 25year olds?

I have been placed on a diet and have started working out to drop weight.

But I seriously question this diagnosis, I do not have any symptoms of a stroke and as far as I know, lacunar infarcts do not cause headaches.

Lacunar infarcts are a pretty elementary diagnosis on an MRI.  There's a few things they can conceivably be confused with, but that is unlikely to happen.  Those types of infarcts can occur and be completely asymptomatic.  In 25 year old people they could have occurred in utero (especially if they are periventricular) , or as a result of heart valve disease, or as in older people, hypertension.  Anectdotal, but adviseable - do not ingest large amounts of vitamin E (tocopherol).

Oh, yeah - I forgot:  Headaches are not a classic symptom of a lacunar infarct, but can occur in hypertension especially when it is severe.  Also, if the diagnosis rendered by the radiologist is very worrisome, at your age, I'd request your doctor get those studies reviewed for a second opinion.  A second opinion never hurts.  Done often.
