Persistent hiccups

My dad had a stroke on June 3. Still being in hospital, and unable to follow commands, they haven't tried a swallow test. Instead, he got a Gj tube inserted, and ever since then he has been constantly hiccupping on every breath he takes. When he sleeps, he does not hiccup, though. We noticed a significant drop in his responsiveness since the hiccups started, and believe that they are causing him a lot of distress. Doctors have tried giving him medications, but nothing worked so far.
Has anyone had a similar experience? Is there anything that can be done to make the hiccups go away?

Fortunatelly, the hiccups have stopped after about 12 days. He was given chrompromazone, but we don't think that's what did it (he was still hiccuping after 3-4 days of treatment). It seems that hiccups tend to resolve on their own after some time.

(1)may GERD gastroesophageal reflux disease
=> Try some PPI (Proton pump inhibitors )
(2) If the NG tube can't be removed recently
=> Try PEG (Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy)
