Pregnancy after Stroke

JQ
Hi

I am 21yrs old and recently suffered a (clot) stroke (3 months ago). I went in to see my Dr today and he said I can try for a baby in the new year.

Please, I would really like to hear from everyone who had a baby post stroke, good or bad.

I am now 34, and suffered a stroke when I was 30...most likely because of birth control pills..(why don't they do more awareness on them?? I mean they say it might cause one, but they act like it is no big deal...and I am sure to all of us, it's a HUGE deal!!- We should all make a commercial about this...lol...)
Anyways, I have two children and would really like another one...Do you guys think I am too old to even try?? Also, when I first had my stroke, they put me on Plavix and aspirin, but now I am just on an aspirin...I am 99% recovered, (slight visual loss, nothing major, and small issues w/ short term memory...but not that bad...)
I am worried that if I become pregnant, and don't realize it, with taking aspirin daily, what problems will or might occur?? Also, is there any natural blood thinners that would not affect the baby in a harmful way??
Thanks!!

I would suggest going to see a hematologist and get tested for lipoprotein A....I just found out that high levels can cause stroke!

I also recovered very quickly and have no residual symptoms.  I do have to say that having a baby is definitely motiviation to get better quickly.  Good luck

Good friends of me and my wife had a baby on 9/1/07.  She had to have a C-Section because she did not dialate passed 6cm and the medication they gave her to induce, made the baby's heart rate spike and crash.  The reason I'm giving you this information is to explain that she never had to push during the birthing process.
Now, yesterday (9/6/07) she had a stroke caused by the dissection of the corotid artery.  When she arrived at the hospital, her right side had been noticebly disabled.  After only five hours, she began getting the function back into her face, arms and legs, so the doctors didn't want to operate the repair the artery.  Today, 24 hours later, she seems to have almost completely recovered and has most of her function back.
What are the long-term effects of a stroke of this kind?  And have any of you experienced or heard of this kind of recovery?  We are extremely close to these people and want to do everything we can to help them recover.  What can they expect moving forward?

I too am glad I found this page, it's comforting to know that there are other people my age to talk with about these things.  I also had a stroke on my 28th birthday, so it's been about a year now.  The doctors aren't sure if it was from the atherosclerosis (the plaque build up during the pregnancy) or the birth control pills.  My daughter was about 3 1/2 months old when it happened.  My husband & I would like to have another child within the next year or two.  I haven't talked to my doctors about it, yet.  In fact my neuro discharged me, I don't even go to see him anymore.  I am currently on aspirin daily, but I think that causes Reyes syndrome during pregnancy, is that right?

My family and I were recently in a horrific car accident where an tracker trailor rear-ended us. My 8 month old son lost his life in the accident and I suffered a stroke on my left side due to the extreme trauma of the accident. Another cause of the stroke was both of my corotid arteries were dissected (torn) in the accident. One was completed blocked with clots and the other one was partially blocked. I have just recently gotten out of the hospital, the accident was 2 months ago. I am still on coumadin after test show both of my arteries in my neck have healed. My husband and I are going to try for another baby around the end of the year or first part of next year. Does anyone know if it will be safe after getting off coumadin to start trying for another child?

Hey Guys! I am so glad I found this site. My name is Amanda, I am 20 years old and I suffered a massive brainstem stroke in 2005 from my birth control pills. I have since found out that I am currently 12 weeks pregnant and the doctors have no worries about me giving birth but they have recently put me on Lovenox. Does anyone know anything about this drug? Thanks
