High Calcium, Very Low PTH

Newbie here...

I recently had a physical which showed my calcium to be 11.3 so my doctor ordered another blood test to check PTH levels. This time, calcium came back at 10.3 and PTH was 4. So calcium was still a little high, but PTH was low.

I still haven't heard back from the doctor yet (and think it's horrible that they post your lab result for you to see before they call you, so all you can do is think the worst) but am wondering what your thoughts are on this.

Thank in advance!

Thank you for your reply. I saw my doctor today, and she was great as far as not dismissing anything. She is referring me to an endo and a pulmonary dr. so hopefully we'll figure something out soon.

High calcium is usually due to a parathyroid disorder, however when the PTH is low other causes must be considered.  Medications such as vitamin D, calcium, thiazide diuretics, vitamin A and others can cause this.  There are additional blood tests that may be needed as well to screen for other causes of "non-parathyroid hypercalcemia" - talk to your doctor about starting this process or being referred to a specialist.
