Low T-3 only

My T-3 is low 2.3 but both my T-4 and TSH are normal.  The doctor is going to supplement with some T-3 but I just want to check if this is the right course to take.  In march I went on biodentical hormones (had a hysterectomy 12 yrs ago, now 57), and a little thyroid.  The middle of June I began loosing my hair in handfuls.  It is now three months and my hair is slowing down just a little. I was told to stop the thyroid because my levels did not change and I was loosing my hair, but a recent tests shows I'm low and I need it. One doctor tells me to continue thyroid one tells me to go off because of hair loss, I am totally confused and nervous, I would love to keep my hair. Your thoughts are appreciated.  Thanks.

correction: "slightly low Free T3" (not T4) -- free T3 is probably the most unreliable thyroid lab.

If TSH and T4 are normal, the slightly low Free T4 is not likely clinically significant and should not be treated in most cases.
