neurological symptoms since hypothyroid

I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism about a year ago but i'm still having so many symptoms. I am on levothyroxine and my TSH is 3. It was due to constant headaches (every day) that i ended up having lots of tests and found hypothyroidism. However my headaches have not subsided at all, brain scans are normal and i also have problems with my long term and working memory. I know these things may not be directly related to thyroid function but i never had any of these problem until my thyroid started malfunctioning. I am still very fatigued. What could be wrong?  I'm only 17 as well, cognitive impairment was the last thing i expected.

Would consider increasing levothyroxine - target TSH around 1 then re-evaluate.  The symptoms may not be related to thyroid.  The other thyroid option would be adding some cytomel to the levothyroxine (but would try to "optimize" TSH first -- although research on this issue does not find that it is particularly helpful, have seen a few patients benefit.

Hi gottama,

You may want to have your B-12  level checked. Low B-12 can also cause these symptoms.

Good Luck, TJ

Ok, so I have  been hypothyroid for the past 10years and for the first 3 of those years I was pretty much told nothing was wrong with me.  Then I was finally diagnosed.  They also tested me for breast cancer and checked for a pituitary tumor.  Results neg.  Although, I just knew I had a tumor.  So for the next 8years my symtoms got worse, the severe fatigue and exhaustion.  So then a onset of double vision occured and guess what they found that tumor on my pituitary.  So since the surgery so many new symptoms have begun ; such as Vertigo which is totally driving me insane the last 2.5 weeks and the meds arent working, my exhaustion is worse, all my cognitive has gone to blah.  The left side of my body, mostly my hands, legs and feet and arms and hands go numb and once in a while the other side will go numb even while walking.  So I am thinking MS as my grandmother on my mothers side had it.  Now my oldest son has MD, so if I do have MS, waiting for test results and history review from Dr.  How could my oldest have MD and I possibly have MS?   I am supposedly the carrier of the MD gene.  The dr's are also considering CFS, which is something I had believed I had for the past 2.5  years, but with the numbing of the extremities, I turned to the MS belief.  Now I know researches are doing some research on the links between, hypothyroid, MS, CFS, Fibromyalgia and certain Lupuses.  So Dr, how large is the research that you know of?  And how could my son have MD and me possibly with MS?
